No. 4 Keiser Wins Sun Conference Title with 44-13 Victory Over Florida Memorial

For the second straight season, the No. 4-ranked Keiser football team claimed the Sun Conference Regular Season title following a 44-13 win at Florida Memorial on Saturday.
 
The Seahawks rushed for 282 yards on 42 attempts with two rushing touchdowns versus the Lions. Jaden Meizinger led all Seahawks with 160 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. D'Andre Golden grabbed two receiving touchdowns on the day.
 
Defensively, the Seahawks held FMU to just 30 yards rushing for the day. Hunter Hargrave was Keiser's leading tackler with eight total tackles (seven solo) and a half-sack. Tivon Sutton added seven total tackles (five solo) with a half-sack, followed by Jaelin Willis, who posted five total tackles (four solo) and a sack. Defensive back Darrell Livingston recorded a school-record 71-yard interception return for a touchdown.
 
The win improved Keiser to 13-0 all-time in Sun Conference play and capped off the program's fourth perfect season in conference play (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023).

First Quarter

  • The Seahawks got on the board first with a 22-yard field goal by Nico Cavanillas with 9:55 left in the first.
  • The field goal was the first of three on the day for the first-year kicker, capping off a 10-play, 41-yard drive.
  • Later in the quarter, Jaden Meizinger scored his 15th rushing touchdown of the season with a 44-yard run (6:31).
  • The extra point gave Keiser a 10-0 lead.
  • The Seahawks closed out the quarter with Cavanilla's second field goal of the game at the 2:31 mark.
  • The 28-yarder extended the Seahawks lead to 13-0.

Second Quarter

  • Meizinger scored his second touchdown of the game his career-best 16th rushing touchdown of the season with a 19-yard scamper with 10:56 left in the half.
  • Cavanillas' second extra point made it a 20-0 game.
  • Bryce Veasley tossed his first touchdown of the contest with a five-yard completion to D'Andre Golden with 3:13 remaining in the half.
  • The touchdown pass was Veasley's 13th of the season.
  • Another made extra point pushed the lead to 27.

Third Quarter

Keiser 34. Florida Memorial 7
  • With 9:39 on the game clock, defensive back Darrell Livingston picked off a pass by Cedquan Smith and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown.
  • The extra point gave Keiser a 34-0 lead.
  • The interception return for a touchdown was the longest in program history.
  • FMU responded with its first score of the game, recording a touchdown on a pass from Smith to Jamal Browder for 31 yards.

Fourth Quarter

Keiser 44, Florida Memorial 13
  • The Seahawks made it a 41-7 game following pass touchdown pass from Veasley to Golden (24 yards).
  • It marked the touchdown connection between the two in the game.
  • It was also Veasley's 14th TD pass of the season (tied for fourth most in a single season at Keiser all-time).
  • Cavanillas drilled his third FG of the contest with a 28-yard attempt (44-7 with 3:11).
  • The Lions scored with six seconds left in the game.

  • With the win, Keiser claims its second straight Sun Conference title.
  • It also marks the team's fifth straight conference crown (SUN & MSC).
  • The Seahawks earn the Sun Conference automatic bid, earning a spot in the upcoming NAIA Football Championship Series.
  • The win moves the Seahawks to 51-15 all-time.
  • Saturday marked the fifth meeting all-time between the two teams with the Seahawks improving to 4-0 all-time versus the Lions.
  • With the win, Keiser remains perfect in Sun Conference play all-time (13-0).
  • With the win, the Seahawks move to 33-3 all-time in conference play (SUN & MSC).
  • The win also improves Keiser to 26-10 all-time in road games.
