Volleyball Falls to No. 24 St. Thomas, 3-1

The Keiser volleyball team fell to the No. 24-ranked St. Thomas Bobcats, 3-1 (25-14, 25-14, 19-25, 25-16), on Wednesday evening from the Fernandez Family Center on the campus of St. Thomas University.
 
The loss drops the Seahawks to 19-8 (3-3 SUN) on the year while STU improves to 15-2 (6-0 SUN).
 
The Seahawks were held to a .115 hitting percentage, posting 36 kills on 130 attacks with 21 hitting errors. Sophomore Brooklynn Slater led all Seahawks with 10 kills. Setter Hannah Heide posted 31 assists and 15 digs for her 12th double-double of the season.

SET 1 (25-14 STU)
  • Down 2-1, the Seahawks rattled off three straight points capped off by an attack error by STU's Amanda Allende to give KU a 4-2 lead.
  • The Bobcats went on a 4-0 run to push their lead to 8-4.
  • A kill by Sophia Trout cut the Bobcats' lead to 12-9.
  • Brooklynn Slater brought Keiser within three (13-10) with a kill.
  • Another run by STU (eight straight points) gave the Bobcats a 21-10 lead.

SET 2 (25-14 STU)

  • STU opened the set with a 4-2 lead.
  • A kill by Josephine Mulligan cut the STU lead to 6-5.
  • Four straight points made it a 10-5 set in favor of the Bobcats.
  • Sydney Wattles recorded two consecutive kills to cut the deficit to 10-7.
  • St. Thomas scored eight of the next nine points to take an 18-8 advantage.
  • Slater recorded a kill to cut the deficit to nine points, 22-13.

SET 3 (25-19 KU)

  • Wattles notched the first point of the set for the Seahawks with a kill (1-1).

  • A kill by Aby Tibesar sparked a 4-0 run as Keiser regained the lead, 7-5.

  • Wattles tied the game with a kill, 10-10.
  • After Slater (kill) tied the game (11-11), the Bobcats scored three consecutive points, 14-11.
  • Lester scored the Seahawks' 12th point with a kill off a Heide assist.
  • A 6-0 run pushed STU's lead to 20-12.

  • With 31 assists tonight, Hannah Heide has now registered 885 assists this season, leading the Sun Conference and ranking third in the NAIA. 
  • Heide has now tallied 3,654 career assists - 321 shy of becoming the school's all-time leader (Brooklyn VandeHei - 3,975).
  • Heide also recorded 15 digs for her 12th double-double of the season.
  • Brooklynn Slater added 10 kills to extend her NAIA lead in points and kills (486.0/425).
