In front of a packed crowd in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Keiser men's basketball team put on a show as six players reached double-digit scoring in a win over Fort Lauderdale. Justin Nichelson, Calvin Sirmans, Vincent Miszkiewicz, and Tyler Poindexter all had dazzling debuts for the Seahawks with Sirmans (14 points, 11 assists), Nichelson (16 points, 11 rebounds), and Miszkiewicz (12 points, 18 rebounds) all picking up double-doubles.

Brandon Farmer's three-pointer with 6:01 on the clock stopped the Eagles run and put Keiser up 12 before hitting another to put the Seahawks up 15 with 4:31 to play.
 
 
How it Happened


First Half
Keiser 42, Fort Lauderdale 33
  • Keiser started the game on a 12-1 run after Brandon Farmer opened the scoring with a layup in the opening minute.
  • The Eagles countered with a quick four points before Calvin Sirmans found Vincent Miszkiewicz for the two-hand slam.
  • A tip in from Miszkiewicz sparked a 7-2 run capped by a three-pointer from Chris Roth to put KU up 21-9 with 11:58 remaining.
  • Minutes later Brandon Farmer struck from downtown before the Eagles would rally for seven straight.
  • Fort Lauderdale continued the momentum with an 8-4 run that was cut off by back-to-back layups from Justin Nichelson.
  • The Seahawks would take back control with a 9-0 run that included a Seryee Lewis jam from Sirmans to put Keiser up 40-26 with three minutes left.
  • The Eagles controlled the momentum into the half, capitalizing on turnovers to cut the lead down to nine heading into the break with KU holding a 42-33 advantage.

Second Half
Keiser 89, Fort Lauderdale 71
  • Benez Woodard hit the opening shot for the Eagles before four consecutive fouls by Fort Lauderdale slowed down the pace of the game.
  • Tyler Poindexter countered with a three-pointer to spark an 11-3 that had Keiser leading 53-38 with just under 15 minutes to play.
  • The Seahawks reached the bonus by the 14:50 mark, going 7-of-8 from the line until they were in the double bonus at the 12:10 mark up by 16.
  • Fort Lauderdale would chip away at the lead before another trey from Poindexter, who had Keiser ahead 63-46 with 10:12 on the clock.
  • The Eagles would continue to fight back, cutting the lead to nine with 6:24 still to play.
  • A three-pointer from Farmer would stop the momentum before he hit again to cap an 8-2 run and put the Seahawks up 77-62.
  • Fort Lauderdale countered with three points of their own, but a Sirmans 5-0 run would leave Keiser ahead by 17 with just under three minutes to play.
  • The Seahawks would control the remainder of the game, sealing the 89-71 win on opening night.
