Women's Basketball Opens Season with 90-46 Win Over Trinity Baptist

The Keiser women's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a convincing 90-46 win over the Trinity Baptist Eagle on Friday. The Seahawks were led by guard Elliana Schaefer, who tallied a career-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She also registered five rebounds and four assists.

The Seahawks held the Eagles to just 14 total points in the final 20 minutes to come away with the 44-point victory.

With the score tied at 17-all after the first 10 minutes of action, the Seahawks used a 9-1 run to start the second. The lead would eventually grow to double digits as the Seahawks went into the half up big and never looked back.

First Quarter

  • Julia Fitzwater got the scoring started with her first 3-pointer of the 2023-24 season, 3-0 (9:31).
  • Elliana Schaefer pushed the lead to four, 6-2, with her first points of the contest (a 3-pointer with 8:03 on the game clock).
  • A pair of free throws by Taylor Jones gave Keiser a 10-6 lead with 5:01 on the game clock.
  • Schaefer gave the Seahawks their largest lead of the quarter, 15-7, with a 3-pointer at the 3:34 mark.
  • The Eagles used a 10-2 run to end the quarter as the game was tied, 17-17.

Second Quarter
Keiser 42, Trinity Baptist 32
  • A 9-1 run by the Seahawks gave Keiser a 26-18 lead with 7:42 on the game clock.
  • A three-point play by Mimmi Hahne made it a 31-24 game with 5:03 left in the half.
  • Hahne hit another jumper as Keiser took a 33-24 lead (4:25).
  • Schaefer pushed the Keiser lead to 10, 37-27, with 1:39 on the clock.
  • A 5-0 run by TBC cut the Seahawks' lead to five, 37-32.
  • Back-to-back buckets by Schaefer (3-pointer) and Hahne (jumper) gave the Seahawks a 42-32 lead heading into halftime.

Third Quarter
Keiser 63, Trinity Baptist 39
  • A 12-0 run to start the third put the game out of reach, 55-32.
  • Kyra Long pushed the Seahawks' lead to 28 with a fastbreak layup, 63-35 (1:41).

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 90, Trinity Baptist 46
  • Elise Ellison made it a 30-point game, 69-39, with 8:26 left in the contest.
  • A 3-pointer by Adriana Testa made the score 74-39 in favor of the season (7:14).
  • Fitzwater hit a triple with 4:28 left in the game as Keiser led 81-45.
  • Schaefer put Keiser up by 40 with a jumper at the 2:34 mark (85-45).
  • Jones scored the final point of the game on a made free throw, 90-46 (00:28).
