Women's Tennis Wraps up Opening Day at Nova Shark Bite Invite

Keiser women's tennis had a strong first day of doubles at the Nova Shark Bite Invite in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The ladies finished 3-3 in singles play against No. 28 Florida Southern and 3-0 in doubles against No. 4 Flagler.

Keiser started the day with a strong set of doubles from each of the three courts with Yeva Kononovych and Isabella Perez Flores getting the opening win of the day on court two over Addison Breunich and Eryka Kruk, 6-1. In singles, Violet Apisah and Katie Visnevscaia shined with each picking up 6-2, 6-0 wins over their respective opponents from Florida Southern. On court four, Perez Flores came one step closer to history with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ronja Scheuermann. The win moves Perez Flores to 56 singles wins all time, tying her for the most in program history with Sarah Schaerer.

Coach's Corner
Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "Today was one of the better doubles performances I've seen from all of our players. We worked a lot over the last week, addressing several technical techniques, and I felt the girls did a great job today of implementing what we practiced. I still think that we have room to grow, but today we played well and aggressively against one of the top Division II teams in the country, which certainly puts us in the right direction. Singles was a bit of a mixed bag today. Vivi, Katie, and Isa all did a great job playing focused tennis and took care of business. The other girls just didn't do a great job today of handling the adversity in front of them and it crept up on us. The nice thing about hidden duals is that we were able to speak about it and I'm confident they'll be better focused tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to be a tough task ahead of us, playing two top-five Division II teams in singles and doubles. However, that's why we play this event, to be challenged. We will make sure we're prepared systematically and do our best to execute a game plan tomorrow."
