Volleyball Wins Seventh Straight with 3-0 Victory at Ave Maria

The Keiser volleyball team won their seventh straight match with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) over the Ave Maria Gyrenes on Wednesday night. With the win, the Seahawks remain in third place in the SUN Standings. 

Brooklynn Slater led all Seahawks with 15 kills while hitting .375 in the match. She also collected 15 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Hannah Heide added 35 assists in the match while Sydney Wattles notched nine kills with a .500 attack percentage.

SET 1 (25-19, KU)
  • Sydney Wattles tied the match with the team's first kill, 1-1
  • After AMU regained the lead, 2-1, Brooklynn Slater drew Keiser even with a kill, 2-2
  • An ace by Hannah Heide pushed KU's lead to 4-2
  • A 3-0 run gave Keiser a 13-8 edge
  • AMU ended the run following a kill by Zelie Kessler, 13-9
  • Josephine Mulligan and Slater each had kills during a Seahawk 4-0 run as Keiser led, 17-9
  • The Gyrenes responded with four straight points to cut the Keiser lead to 17-13, resulting in a KU timeout
  • Aby Tibesar recorded a kill to end the Gyrenes' run, 18-13
  • The Seahawks added two more points for a 20-13 advantage
  • After a Frederica Silva kill made it 22-15, AMU rattled off three straight points (22-18)

  • The Gyrenes jumped out to a 4-1 lead to start the set

  • Mulligan cut the deficit to 7-3 with a kill out of the break
  • Trailing 10-5, the Seahawks scored three straight with back-to-back kills by Slater and a service ace by Silva (10-8), forcing an AMU timeout
  • Keiser tied the set, 12-12, after a Heide service ace
  • With the score tied 14-14, AMU went on a 3-0 run to take the lead (17-14)
  • Keiser battled back, tying the match, 18-18, with a kill by Slater

  • With 35 assists on Saturday, Hannah Heide has now registered 1,140 assists this season, leading the Sun Conference and the NAIA. 
  • Her 1,140 assists this season are the third most all-time in a single season at Keiser.
  • Heide has now tallied 3,909 career assists - 66 shy of becoming the school's all-time leader (Brooklyn VandeHei - 3,975).
  • Brooklynn Slater led the Seahawks with 15 kills on Wednesday to extend her NAIA lead in points and kills (597.0/528).
  • She also ranks No. 5 in the NAIA in kills per set (4.29). 
  • Slater's 528 kills are the fourth-most in a season at Keiser all-time.
  • Slater is the first NAIA player this season to reach the 500-kill plateau.
  • The native of Las Vegas, Nevada, has moved into fifth-place in career kills at Keiser (943).
