Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Eight with 3-1 Win versus CCGA

The Keiser volleyball team won their eighth straight match with a 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-13, 25-23) win versus Coastal Georgia Saturday afternoon.

Brooklynn Slater led all Seahawks with 19 kills. She also collected 10 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. Hannah Heide added 54 assists in the match, her third match of the season with 50+ assists.

How it Happened

SET 1 (25-21, KU)
  • Hannah Heide got things started with a kill, 1-0.
  • A kill by Josephine Mulligan made it a 3-1 score.
  • Back-to-back kills by Brooklynn Slater and Frederica Silva gave the Seahawks a 5-2 lead.
  • A 4-0 run by the Mariners gave CCGA a 6-5 advantage.
  • After a Sydney Wattles kill made it a 8-7 score, CCGA rattled off three straight to take a 10-9 lead.
  • Three straight kills (two by Slater) put Keiser ahead, 11-10.
  • With the score tied at 13-13, the Seahawks used a 4-0 run to take a 17-13 edge.
  • A Silva kill and an attack error by Delaney Wilson made it 21-16.
  • Trailing 23-18, Coastal Georgia scored three consecutive points to cut the lead, 23-21.
  • Kills by Wattles and Abygale Lester closed out the set, 25-21.

SET 2 (25-22, CCGA)

  • The Mariners jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the set. 
  • After a Slater kill halted the CCGA run, the Mariners added three more points to make it 7-1
  • Keiser cut the deficit to 9-5 following a service error by Julia Neveu and a kill by Silva.
  • The Mariners went on a 6-0 run, extending their lead, 19-9.
  • Still trailing by 10, 22-12, the Seahawks went on a 5-0 run to cut the CCGA lead, 22-17.
  • Keiser took advantage of consecutive Mariner errors as the Seahawks scored four straight to pull within two, 23-21.
  • Both teams exchanged points before Elena Gkiourda tied the match with a kill, 25-22.

SET 3 (KU, 25-13)

  • The Seahawks opened what would be their most dominant set of the match with a 5-1 lead.
  • CCGA responded with three straight points to cut the lead, 5-4.
  • A kill by Wattles coupled with a service ace by Silva pushed the Keiser lead to five, 12-7.
  • Slater gave Keiser a six-point lead with a kill and a service ace, 17-11.
  • Six straight points by the Seahawks to close out the set, gave Keiser a 2-0 lead.

SET 4 (KU, 25-23)
  • KU took and early 2-0 lead with a kill by Slater and an ace by Silva.
  • The Mariners tied the set a 4-4 with a block assist by Cassidy Casey and Raevyn Russell.
  • Slater recorded two points with a kill and a service ace to give KU a 6-4 edge.
  • CCGA posted three straight points to take a 7-6 lead.
  • The Mariners outscored Keiser 4-1 to make it an 11-7 set.
  • Trailing 12-9, the Seahawks scored three straight points to tie the set at 12-12.
  • The Mariners maintained a two-point lead for the most of the set, holding a 22-20 advantage.
  • Keiser used a 4-0 run to take a 24-22 lead.

  • With 54 assists on Saturday, Hannah Heide has now registered 1,194 assists this season, leading the Sun Conference and the NAIA. 
  • Her 1,194 assists this season are the third most all-time in a single season at Keiser.
  • Heide has now tallied 3,963 career assists - 12 shy of becoming the school's all-time leader (Brooklyn VandeHei - 3,975).
  • Brooklynn Slater led the Seahawks with 19 kills on Saturday to extend her NAIA lead in points and kills (619.0/547).

  • Slater's 547 kills are the fourth-most in a season at Keiser all-time.
  • Slater is the first NAIA player this season to reach the 500-kill plateau.
