Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight at Home, 83-58

The Keiser women's basketball team won its fifth straight home game with an 83-58 victory over the Florida National Conquistadors on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks used 20 point from Kennedy Schlabach and double-doubles from Janiece Thomas and Elise Ellison-Coons to hand FNU the 25-point loss.

The Seahawks used a lopsided first quarter, out-scoring the Conquistadors, 31-7, en route to the team's eighth straight win over FNU. Keiser went on a 31-2 run to start the game and never looked back.
 
 
How it Happened


First Quarter
Keiser 31, Florida National 7
  • The Seahawks got out to a scorching start with a 9-2 run that forced an early FNU timeout.
  • The Seahawks continued their momentum with a dominant scoring run that at one point saw Keiser take a 31-2 lead.
  • The Conquistadors would get a late 3-pointer and a jumper to end the quarter down by 24.
  • Keiser scored 10 points off of turnovers in the quarter.

Second Quarter
Keiser 50, Florida National 20
  • A jumper by Janiece Thomas gave Keiser a 37-11 lead with 05:58 remaining in the half.
  • Zaniah Banks converted a jumper with 2:26 left in the quarter put KU up 44-11.
  • With 1:27 remaining, a Kennedy Schlabach steal led to a Janiece Thomas fastbreak layup that drew a foul. Thomas would convert the free throw to complete the three point play. 
  • Thomas scored the final points of the half on a three-pointer that gave the Seahawks a 30 point lead heading into the locker room.

Third Quarter
Keiser 69, Florida National 30
  • Andressa Nascimento pushed KU's lead to 53-21 with a three-pointer at the 9:02 mark.
  • Taylor Jones would put Keiser up 60-24 with 6:11 remaining in the quarter with a layup.
  • FNU's Janelisse Marty converted a jumper to cut Keiser's lead to 39 with 0:54 left in the quarter.
  • The Seahawks shot 60% from three point range in the third quarter.
  • KU also went 4-4 at the charity stripe in the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 83, Florida National 58
  • The Seahawks maintained control of the game with an Elise Ellison-Coons layup that gave Keiser a 71-33 advantage.
  • Emma Reiser scored her first career bucket with 8:02 left in the game. 
  • A handful of Seahawk turnovers allowed FNU to score nine points off of turnovers in the quarter.
  • The Conquistadors went on a scoring run to bring the Keiser lead down to 73-45  with 5:39 on the game clock.
  • Both teams exchanged buckets over the final five minutes before a three-pointer by Kennedy Schlabach (2:33) became the final Seahawk field goal and essentially ended the game.
