No. 1 women's soccer battled to a draw on Saturday against the No. 3 William Carey Crusaders in Orange Beach, Ala.
Lauren Riley and
Maja Lundman both registered goals for the Seahawks on the afternoon.
- Keiser would pressure the William Carey defense early, earning two corner kicks in the first seven minutes of action.
- In the 13th minute, Grace McClellan would punch-out a Crusaders cross but not far enough as Maria Azarias would strike it just over the KU keeper and give William Carey the early lead.
- WCU would put the Seahawks on their back foot for the next 10 minutes before Keiser flipped the momentum in the 30th minute.
- It was Maja Henriksson that sparked the offense in the 32nd minute, driving down the right side of the field before sending a ball into the box that Lauren Riley redirected into the net to make it a 1-1 game
- Both sides would continuously search for opportunities as Riley nearly scored on a header with just under a minute left to play.
- The Seahawks would head to halftime tied for the first time this season.
- Keiser came out strong in the second half as Ayaka Matsumaru would sneak a ball through the Crusaders defense where Maja Lundman would beat the keeper in a 1-on-1 and passed it into the back of the net to give Keiser a 2-1 lead at the 56th minute.
- The two sides would exchange possessions in the midfield with each taking shots that would end just off goal.
- Henriksson would have the final shot of the game but it sail just high as the final seconds would tick off the clock and finish the game tied at 2-2.
- The Seahawks remained undefeated on the season, taking their first draw to move their record to 8-0-1.
- It is the first time in series history that the game has ended in a tie between KU and WCU.
- Keiser trailed for the first time this season as the Crusaders scored the first goal of the game.
- Lauren Riley scored her eighth goal of the season to stretch her team-lead in the category.
- Maja Lundman's fourth goal of the season moved her into fourth-place on the team overall.
- With both defenses playing strong, both goalkeepers were able to make one save each.
- Maja Henriksson's seventh assist on the year moves her career total to 45, just 17 behind the all-time program leader.Â
