Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Dalton State, 71-66

Despite another big night from Justin Tucker, men's basketball couldn't quite make up a late run as they fell to Dalton State, 71-66.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Franklin Almonte and Donavan Martin tied and gave the Roadrunners their final lead of the game in the middle of a 13-0 scoring run in the second half.
 
 
How it Happened


First Half
Dalton State 38, Keiser 32
  • Dalton State scored the opening basket before DaQuan Williams came down to the other end and hit a three-pointer for Keiser's first bucket.
  • Both sides would step up defensively as the next three minutes resulted in a 5-5 scoring run capped by a Williams converted and-1 layup coming out of the media timeout.
  • The Roadrunners would score the next four before Brandon Farmer and Williams countered with four of their own with 12:23 to play in the first.
  • Dalton State would then jump out on a 9-2 run prior to three points from Justin Tucker to cut the lead to 20-17 for the Roadrunners with 9:32 showing.
  • The Seahawks would begin to climb back into the game with a 6-4 run but Dalton State would answer with a 9-0 scoring run to take a 10-point advantage with 4:11 on the clock.
  • KU would take the momentum into the half with a 9-5 run of their own as Tucker secured his second consecutive double-double and his fourth of the season.

Second Half
Dalton State 71, Keiser 66
  • Dalton State began the second half with a three-pointer that turned into a 6-4 run and a 44-36 lead.
  • Keiser bounced back with a 10-6 run capped by a Brandon Younger three to make it a 50-46 game with 14:08 remaining.
  • Three consecutive offensive rebounds led to the Seahawks' first lead of the second half at the 8:43 mark with Christian Miller-Cardwell hitting a tip-in to put KU ahead 53-52.
  • The Seahawks would get the lead up to five at one point but back-to-back three-pointers from the Roadrunners put Dalton State ahead with 4:22 left in the game.
  • Dalton State would convert opportunities en route to a 7-2 that gave them a seven-point lead with just over a minute remaining.
  • The Roadrunners answered every basket that the Seahawks made to secure the 71-66 win over Keiser as the clock hit zero.

  • With the win, Dalton State takes a 1-0 lead in the series as the two sides had not met previously.
  • Keiser is now 86-30 against first-time opponents in program history.
  • The Seahawks end the 2022 year with an 8-6 overall record.

  • Another monster night from Justin Tucker led the Seahawks in multiple categories.
  • The big man brought down a season-best 19 rebounds to go along with a team-best 19 points and four assists.
  • For the second consecutive game since joining the squad, Brandon Farmer racked up more than 10 points with 12 on the afternoon and seven boards.
  • Core'von Lott and DaQuan Williams each hit the 10-point mark in the game with Lott adding three assists and Williams adding a team-best three steals.
  • Keiser won the rebounding battle in the game by a margin of 11 with a total of 47 to the Roadrunners' 36
  • It's the third time that the Seahawks have equaled that rebounding mark this season. (at Voorhees 10/30, vs Warner 12/1)
  • KU also won the battle of second-chance points on the day by a score of 16-6.
