Women's Basketball Records Their First Conference Win On The Road Against The Warriors

A season-high of 30 points for Kennedy Schlabach helped the Seahawks with the victory over the Warriors of Webber International University. Keiser has snapped a losing streak against Sun Conference opponents. The Seahawks out rebounded the Warriors and outscored them 25-14 in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks improved their all-time record against the Warriors to 17-18.  Keiser has dominated in the fourth quarter in back-to-back games.

A three-pointer by Kennedy Schlabach to tie the game in the fourth quarter in the ninth minute. Followed by a three-pointer Elliana Schaefer to take the lead 50-49, after that the Warriors could not come back. 
 
 
How it Happened


First Quarter

Webber Int'l 5, Keiser 15
  • The Seahawks went on a scoring run and led 5-0 until the 6:23 mark. 
  • After back-to-back-to-back buckets by the Seahawks, the Warriors scored to get on the board (5-2). 
  • Webber than fouled Skykim Gillion to take her to the line. Gillion made both free throws to improve the score to 7-2. 
  • Keiser captilizied on a steal by Gillion as Kennedy Schlabach made the layup. 
  • Back-to-back buckets by Schlabach extend the lead to 11-2. 
  • The Seahawks outscored the Warriors in the first quarter. 

Second Quarter

Webber Int'l 26, Keiser 21
  • Going into the second quarter the Warriors started to pick up some momentum. 
  • Webber Int'l took the lead with 1:28 left in the second quarter. Going into halftime the score was 26-21 in favor of the Warriors. 
  • The Warriors outscored the Seahawks 21-6. 
  • In the first half, the leading scorer for Keiser was Gillion with five points. Behind Gillion was Andressa Nascimento, Elise Ellison-Coons, and Schlabach with four points each. 
  • As a team, the Seahawks were shooting 71.4% from the line. 

Third Quarter

Webber Int'l 47, Keiser 44
  • First set of points for the Seahawks in the third quarter was by Janiece Thomas with a jumper to minimize the deficit to ten. 
  • Julia Fitzwater hit a three assisted by Ellison-Coons to make the game 33-26. 
  • With back-to-back buckets by Schlabach to improve the score and the Seahawks were down by two. 
  • The third quarter was a constant back and forth in the scoring to keep it a close game. 

Fourth Quarter

Webber Int'l 61, Keiser 69
  • Kennedy Schlabach hit a 3-pointer with 9:46 left to play to tie the game for the Seahawks. 
  • Webber Int'l answered back with a jumper to regain the lead 49-47.
  • That did not stop the Seahawks as Elliana Schaefer hit a three-pointer to take the lead assisted by Janiece Thomas
  • Schlabach made a layup at the 8:05 mark to add to that lead. 
  • Toward the end of the game Schlabach hit a back-to-back three-pointers to extend the lead to seven points. 
  • In the second half, the Seahawks shot 75.0 percent from the line going 12-16. 
  • The Warriors fouled Schlabach which brought her to the line three times before the game ended. She went 6-6 from the line. 
 


Game Notes

  • This win improves Keiser to 6-4 overall and 2-1 on the road (1-3 in Sun Conference play).
  • Keiser is now leading the all-time series against the Warriors 18-17.
  • Last season, the Seahawks split the series with Webber Int'l. 
  • The Seahawks are now 17-16 versus the Warriors in Sun Conference action.
