The No. 12-ranked Keiser football team used a 20-point fourth quarter to eliminate the No. 4-ranked Bethel (Tenn.) Wildcats in the First Round of the NAIA Football Championship Series on Saturday. The Seahawks used 166 yards on the ground by Jaden Meizinger and a defense that forced four turnovers to hand the Wildcats their first and only loss of the season.
 

First Quarter

Keiser 7, Bethel (Tenn.) 7
  • Both teams were forced to punt on their opening drives.
  • Bethel (Tenn.) got on the board with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Joaquin Collazo to Davius Prather with 4:39 on the game clock,
  • The made extra point gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
  • On the ensuing possession, Keiser took the ball 69 yards on 10 plays for the game-tying touchdown. 
  • Jaden Meizinger rushed for nine yards to score the Seahawk's first points of the game with 59 seconds left in the first.

Second Quarter
Bethel (Tenn.) 17, Keiser 7
  • The Wildcats extended their lead to 14-7 following another Collazo to Prather connection this time for 13 yards at the 12:40 mark.
  • After starting its final drive of the half from the Keiser 42-yard line, the Wildcats made it a 17-7 game.
  • Austin Abbott drilled a 32-yard field goal as time expired for the 10-point lead.

Third Quarter

Bethel (Tenn.), 17, Keiser 7
  • Neither team was able to add to the scoreboard in the third quarter.
  • There were nine total possession - five for the Seahawks and four for the Wildcats.

Fourth Quarter

Keiser 27, Bethel (Tenn.) 17
  • The Seahawks first drive of the quarter - which carried over from the end of the third - ended with the team's second touchdown of the game.
  • Shea Spencer connected with Jaylen Arnold for a 71-yard touchdown, cutting into the Bethel (Tenn.) lead, 17-14, with 14:09 left to play.
  • The touchdown catch was the second-longest of Arnold's career and the second-longest TD catch in school history.
  • On the team's next possession, Spencer hit Michael Robinson for 62 yards and a touchdown with 8:27 remaining in the contest.
  • The score gave KU its first lead of the game, 21-17.
  •  After the Seahawk's defense held the Wildcats to a three-and-out, Keiser drove the ball down to the Bethel (Tenn.) 15-yard line.
  • Chance Gagnon converted a 32-yard field goal to give Keiser a 24-17 lead (3:42).
  • On the Wildcat's next possession, Mitchel Desulme recovered a sack-fumble (by Tivon Sutton) to give the Seahawk's the ball at the Bethel (Tenn.) 40-yard line.
  • Gagnon made his second field goal of the game with a 47-yarder, giving Keiser 27-17 lead with 1:39 left to play.
  • Linebacker Jaelin Willis sealed the victory after picking off a Collazo pass.

  • The Seahawks moved to 8-3 on the year with the win on Saturday.
  • With the win, Keiser advanced to the NAIA FCS Quarterfinals for the third straight year.
  • Saturday's victory was the first for Keiser versus a Top-5 team with Bethel (Tenn.) coming into Saturday ranked No. 4.
  • The Seahawks are now 1-3 all-time versus Top-5 teams.
  • Bethel (Tenn.) becomes the highest-ranked team the Seahawks have defeated in program history.
  • With the win, the Seahawks improve to 4-3 in the NAIA Football Championship Series and 3-1 in the First Round.
  • KU is now 1-1 all-time versus Bethel (Tenn.).
  • With the win, Keiser remains undefeated in NAIA action this season (8-0).
  • Jaden Meizinger, the First Round Outstanding Offensive Player of the Game, rushed for 166 yards on 28 carries with one touchdown.
  • It was the second-highest rushing total for Meizinger in his career and marked the second straight game in which the KU running back rushed for over 100 yards.  
  • Defensive back Wendol Philord, the First Round Outstanding Defensive Player of the Game, recorded a team-high 10 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack,
  • Keiser won the turnover battle for the seventh straight game, forcing four- two fumbles and two INTs. The Seahawks have forced 27 turnovers this season.
  • Jaylen Arnold registered the second-longest touchdown catch of his career and in school history with a 71-yard catch in the fourth quarter.
  • With 211 yards passing on the day, Shea Spencer set the school's single-season record for passing yards (1,955).
