No. 1 women's soccer prevailed 1-0 in their NAIA National Championship Second Round matchup against the College of Idaho on Saturday afternoon in West Palm Beach, Fla. Following a cross into the box,
Julia Forslund was able to tap the ball to
Oline Sundgot who scored the only goal of the contest in the 68th minute.
- Keiser would get the opening chance of the game with a corner after three minutes of play but it would sail out of play.
- The Yotes would drop their team back early in the game as the Seahawks pressed forward looking for chances.
- Keiser's best chance of the first half came in the 26th minute when Maja Henriksson's shot flew just wide of the post.
- The College of Idaho would get a free-kick in the 41st minute that was put on goal but Grace McClellan swallowed up the ball with ease.
- Coming out of the half, both sides went back to their first-half strategies as the Yotes dropped back and the Seahawks continued pressuring.
- In the 65th minute, Marthe Taugbøl stepped up to take a 40-yard free-kick that she put on target before the Yotes keeper punched the ball away.
- Two minutes later, a cross into the box found Julia Forslund who tapped the ball forward to Oline Sundgot who was able to shoot the ball into the left side of the net and put Keiser ahead 1-0.
- Ayaka Matsumaru had the next chance in the 71st minute but her shot was blocked by the College of Idaho goalie.
- Keiser would continue to push forward in the 73rd minute as Sundgot would have another chance blocked by the keeper.
- A misunderstanding on the Keiser backline led to an indirect free-kick for the Yotes just inside the box in the 74th minute but the wall would block the ensuing shot.
- With just over 11 minutes left, Viki Adam tried her luck with a shot from outside the box but it was blocked by a defender and bounced away.
- The Seahawks would continue to stifle each offensive possession that the Yotes threw forward as Keiser would maintain the 1-0 scoreline for their 21st win of the season.
- Keiser will now head to the NAIA Final Site in Orange Beach, Ala. with a 21-0-1 record on the year.
- The Seahawks improved to 4-0-0 in the NAIA National Championship Second Round.
- KU was the top-ranked team heading into the tournament and the first to punch their ticket to the Final Site.
- With their 16th shutout of the year, the 2022 team has set a new program record for most shutouts in a season.
- The 21 wins are also the second-best mark by any team in Keiser history.
- Sundgot's game-winning goal was her ninth goal of the season, good for fourth on the team.
- Forslund's assist was just the second of the year for the defender.
- McClellan made the two saves she was needed for, earning the 44th win of her career.
