The No. 16-ranked Keiser football team defeated the visiting Ave Maria Gyrenes on Senior Day, claiming the team's fifth straight victory. Marques Burgess ran for a career-high 234 yards on 36 carries, surpassing UCF's Kevin Smith for the most yards by a running back from a school from the state of Florida (4,759 yards). Defensively, the Seahawks forced three turnovers led by Jaelin Willis, who recorded 14 total tackles, forced two fumbles and picked off a pass. 

Prior to the game, Keiser Athletics recognized 17 seniors who were making their final regular-season appearance at home in their Seahawks career - Camron Allen, Jaylen Arnold, Marques Burgess, Alessandro Cantillo, Sage Chen-Young, Noah Curtis, Akarri Davis, Mitchel Desulme, Luckaad Dorsainvil, Tyler Foster, Austin Gray, Brendan Parr, Michael Robinson, Arnesio Rosado, Samuel Snell, Colton Takis, and Logan Wakefield.
 
 
 

First Quarter

Keiser 10, Ave Maria 7
  • The Gyrenes struck first on their opening drive, scoring on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Lege to Quino Mauricette with 11:48 on the game clock.
  • The Seahawks answered on a two-yard score from Marques Burgess on Keiser's first possession.
  • The score was Burgess' first of the night and tied the game at 7-7 with 9:07 left in the quarter.
  • It capped off a seven-play, 48-yard drive which took up 2:41 on the game clock.  
  • Jace Stewart picked off a Lege pass to set up KU's second drive of the game from their own 40-yard line (6:58).
  • The Seahawks drove into Gyrene territory, leading to a 42-yard field goal by Chance Gagnon, making it 10-7 (2:33).

Second Quarter

Keiser 24, Ave Maria 14
  • A Keiser turnover early in the quarter put Ave Maria in good field position (first-and-10 from the KU 21).
  • The Gyrenes took their first only lead of the game with a six-yard rushing touchdown by Kristian Marks with 14:24 remaining in the half.
  • Keiser responded with a six-play, 75-yard scoring drive to regain the lead.
  • Shea Spencer hooked up with Seth Rolle on a 17-yard catch, giving the Seahawks a 17-14 advantage with 12:11 on the game clock. . 
  • The Seahawks stopped the Gyrenes on fourth-and-nine after Jertavis Black recorded his first sack of the season (11-yard loss), giving Keiser the ball back at midfield with 7:56 remaining in the half. 
  • The Seahawks took the ball 50 yards on 10 plays, extending their lead to 24-14 on Burgess' second rushing TD of the game.  

Third Quarter

Keiser 27, Ave Maria 21
  • Keiser opened the second half with Gagnon's second field goal of the game, as the native of Palm Beach Gardens converted a 32-yard attempt with 10:53 on the game clock.
  • The field goal gave the Seahawks a 13-point lead. 
  • The Gyrenes answered with 15-play, 72-yard drive which was capped off by a 14-yard touchdown pass from Lege to Darius Sawyer with 5:31 left in the third.  

Fourth Quarter

Keiser 27, Ave Maria 21
  • The Seahawks took their first drive of the fourth, driving the ball to the AMU 15-yard line on a drive the went 14 plays for 78 yards, eating up 5:37.
  • Gagnon missed a 32-yard field goal attempt (wide left) with 9:10 remaining in the game as the score remained, 27-21.
  •  The Gyrenes took the ensuing possession down to the Keiser six-yard line where on fourth-and-one, linebacker Logan Wakefield stopped AMU running back Bryan Stiemke for no gain.
  • The Seahawks took over deep in their own territory with 6:09 on the game clock.
  • On the next Keiser drive, Burgess added 37 yards onto his career-high 234 yards rushing. However, the Seahawks were forced to punt, giving the Gyrenes the ball back with 2:10 left in the game.
  • Four plays into AMU's drive, linebacker Jaelin Willis punched the ball loose from wide receiver Darius Sawyer as Wendol Philord pounced on the loose ball and sealing the victory for the Seahawks.

.Game Notes
  • The Seahawks moved to 6-3 on the year with the win at home.
  • KU now leads the all-time series against AMU 4-1 and 3-0 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
  • The 317 yards on the ground by the Seahawks were the fifth-most in school history and the most since putting up 367 yards versus Warner (10/30/21). 
  • Keiser remains undefeated in Sun Conference play with a perfect 5-0 record.
  • With 234 yards rushing, Marques Burgess increased his career rushing total to 4,759 yards, passing Kevin Smith (UCF - 4,679) for the most career rushing yards by a running back from a collegiate team from the state of Florida.  
  • The 234 yards were a career-high for Burgess and the second-most by a Keiser running back (268 by Asfunso Elam - vs. STU - 11/9/19).
  • With two rushing touchdowns, Burgess increased his career rushing touchdown total to 54. 
  • Quarterback Shea Spencer completed 12-of-17 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, increasing his passing yards total for the season to 1,627 (fourth-most in school history).
  • His 12 completions gave Spencer the single-season record for pass completions in a season with 151.
  • Linebacker Jaelin Willis recorded a career-high 14 tackles (tied for second-most in school history).
