Behind a monster double-double from Angela Denis, the Keiser women's basketball team cruised past Thomas, 87-54, in Sun Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Following the game, Keiser recognized five former Seahawks (Hannah Del Negro, Jamilla Banks-Wall, Dominique Winbush, Alasjia Dykes and Midori Long) as a part of Alumni Day.

After Thomas netted the opening basket of the contest, the Seahawks answered with a 10-0 run to take the lead, 10-3, and never relinquished it.
 
 
How it Happened


First Quarter
Keiser 23, Thomas 17
  • After Thomas opened the scoring with a three-pointer, the Seahawks responded with a 10-0 run to jump out to a 10-3 lead at the 8:02 mark.
  • Kaitlyn Fertig fueled the run with two triples and Denis capped it off with a pair of makes at the foul line.
  • Four straight points by the Nighthawks drew them within three, 10-7, as 6:06 remained in the quarter.
  • Keiser answered with a 6-0 spurt to stretch their lead to the largest of the quarter, 16-7, as 4:48 showed on the clock.
  • Thomas netted 10 of the final 17 points of the quarter as KU took a 23-17 lead into the second.

Second Quarter
Keiser 41, Thomas 29
  • A 10-2 run by the Seahawks stretched their advantage to double figures for the first time, 35-23, with 2:52 left in the half.
  • Four different Seahawks scored during the run, led by Denis' four points.
  • The two sides split the final 12 points of the half as Keiser took a 41-29 advantage into the break.

Third Quarter
Keiser 60, Thomas 48
  • A Fertig triple to start the third sparked a 7-0 spurt by the Seahawks, who stretched their lead to 19, 48-29, with 8:20 left in the quarter.
  • Taylor Jones gave KU a 20-point lead, 53-33, with a layup at the 6:15 mark.
  • After Zaniah Banks extended Keiser's advantage to 23, 58-35, Thomas closed the quarter on a 13-2 run to trim the Seahawk lead to 12, 60-48.

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 87, Thomas 64
  • Thomas stretched their run to a 15-2 surge with a layup by Amayla Sharif to open the fourth, cutting the KU lead to 10, 60-50, as 9:45 remained in the contest.
  • The Seahawks responded with a 27-4 run to close out the contest with an 87-54 victory.
  • Denis jumpstarted the run with a basket at the 9:00 mark and Julia Fitzwater capped it off with a layup as :10 ticks remained on the clock.
  • Denis led the charge during the run, racking up seven points, followed by Taylor Jones with five.
 


Game Notes

  • Keiser improves to 15-7 (6-4 SUN) with the victory.
  • All-time against the Nighthawks, Keiser is now 12-7.
  • The Seahawks have now won six of their last seven meetings with Thomas.
  • In West Palm Beach, KU is now 6-3 all-time against the Nighthawks.
  • At home this season, the Seahawks improved to 11-3.

  • Keiser dominated the boards Saturday, outrebounding the Nighthawks 43-29.
