A strong defensive effort on Monday evening leads the Seahawks past Ave Maria, 55-46. 

How it Happened

First Quarter
Keiser 12, Ave Maria 8
  • Behind six points from Andressa Nascimento, the Seahawks jumped out to the early 10-2 advantage at the 3:50 mark.
  • The Gyrenes used a 6-0 run to get within two but Emily Patton converted a layup with 32 seconds left as Keiser led 12-8.

Second Quarter
Keiser 26, Ave Maria 17
  • Keiser tallied five of the opening seven points to lead 17-10 at the media timeout with 4:37 to go in the first half.
  • The Seahawks used a 7-3 burst, claiming their largest lead of the half, 24-13 as AMU took a timeout with 1:45 left.
  • Keiser's defense was stout in the opening half, holding Ave Maria to just five field goals while forcing 10 turnovers.
  • At the intermission, the Seahawks were in front 26-17 as Patton scored nine points.

Third Quarter
Keiser 43, Ave Maria 35
  • Ave Mara opened the new half with nine consecutive points, tying the game at 26-26 with 8:36 left.
  • The Seahawks regrouped with an 8-0 run, retaking a 34-26 advantage with 5:26 to go in the quarter. Patton led the way with five points.
  • The next six points belonged to the Gyrenes as the KU lead shrunk to two, 34-32 with 2:47 remaining.
  • Keiser closed the period on 8-3 run to lead 43-35. Patton led the charge with six points.

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 55, Ave Maria 46
  • The lone points belonged to Shykim Gillion on a layup as Ave Maria took a timeout with 7:19 to go in regulation.
  • The Seahawks claimed their largest lead of the game, 51-39, with 3:37 left.
  • AMU responded with a 6-0 burst to climb within five, 51-46, with 1:40 showing on the scoreboard.
  • Patton halted the run with a three-pointer and the Seahawks defense forced a turnover on the next possession.
  • The Gyrenes were forced to foul to extend the game, but it was too little too late as KU won, 55-46.

  • 1: Patton was the lone Seahawk in double-figures, finishing with 18 points.
  • 6: Antigonie Sanabria pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
  • 8: 8 of the 14 field goals for AMU came from long range.
