Women's Basketball Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short at Webber, 51-49

The Seahawks late comeback came up just short on Saturday afternoon at Webber, falling, 51-49. Andressa Nascimento hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining to tie the game but Keiser was unable to stop Webber on their ensuing possession.

How it Happened

First Quarter
Keiser 10, Webber Int'l 11
  • The teams traded leads on five occasions with Webber clinging to a 5-4 advantage at the five-minute media timeout.
  • The Warriors used a 6-2 spurt, upping their lead to 11-6 with 42 ticks remaining.
  • A Jahnecia Charles jumper and Chiara De Virgilio layup brought the Seahawks to within one at the end of the opening quarter.

Second Quarter
Keiser 19, Webber Int'l 28
  • Webber opened the frame on an 8-0 run, bumping their advantage to 19-10 with 7:09 left in the half.
  • A Keondra Smith layup made it a seven-point game, but a 7-2 burst gave the Warriors their largest lead of the game, 26-14, with 2:52 to go.
  • The Seahawks would trail 28-19 at the intermission.

Third Quarter
Keiser 35, Webber Int'l 45
  • Webber matched their largest advantage of the game, 35-23, when Keiser went on an 8-3 run to get within seven with 2:39 left.
  • The Seahawks would trail 45-35 at the end of the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 49, Webber Int'l 51
  • A De Virgilio three-pointer along with a pair of free throws by Shykim Gillion trimmed the deficit to 45-40 with 8:23 showing on the scoreboard.
  • The score line remained the same at the media timeout with 4:59 to go in regulation.
  • Keiser ran off the next three points to make it a one-possession game, 45-43, with 2:44 to go.
  • WIU ended the shutout with a pair off free throws at the 2:39 mark, upping their lead to 47-43.
  • Three free throws by Emily Patton brought Keiser to within one, 47-46, with 1:02 remaining.
  • Webber bumped the margin back to three on a Franklin layup with 34 seconds left.
  • Following timeouts by both teams, Nascimento nailed a three-pointer, tying the game at 49-49 with 25 seconds to go.
  • Franklin again converted on a layup, putting Webber back on top, 51-49, with five seconds remaining.
  • The Seahawks called a timeout but turned it over, falling on the road, 51-49.
