Lott's Game-Winner Gives Men's Basketball an 81-78 Victory over Webber Int'l

Core'von Lott (15 points) drained the game-winning 3-pointer with just five seconds left in the game to give the Seahawks an 81-78 victory over the Webber International Warriors on Saturday. Antwan Claxton (25 points) found Lott at the top of the key for the go-ahead bucket.

With the ball and just five seconds left to play, Antwan Claxton notched his four assist of the game, finding Core'von Lott at the top of the key for the game-winner as KU broke the deadlock, 81-78.

 
 
 
How it Happened



First Half

Keiser 36, Webber Int'l 33
  • The Seahawks opened the game on a 7-2 run, capped off with a layup by Antwan Claxton with 17:23 on the clock.
  • The Warriors tied the game, 7-7, following a trey by Tiyon Martin at the 16:06 mark.
  • A pair of made free throws by Claxton pushed the KU lead back to seven, 14-7 (14:37).
  • With 11:49 left in the half, Claxton extended Keiser's lead to 11 (20-9).
  • An 8-0 run by the Warriors cut the Kesier lead to 20-17 with 10:02 left in the half.
  • A fastbreak 3-pointer by WIU's Jaylon Myles tied the game a 22-22 (7:28).
  • The Seahawks and Warriors traded buckets over the four minutes before Marko Radulovic hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give KU a 6-point lead (34-28 - 2:17).
  • The half ended with Keiser holding a 36-33 lead heading into the break.

Second Half

Keiser 81, Webber Int'l 78
  • The Warriors closed the gap early in the second half and took their first lead of the game (42-40) after two made free throws by Myles with 16:11 on the clock.
  • Myles gave WIU its largest lead of the game (7) converting the second of two free-throw attempts with 14:07 on the clock. 
  • The Warriors maintained a two-possession led over the next eight minutes before a Claxton jumper with 6:01 left in the game capped off a 5-0 run and tied the game at 66-66.
  • Trailing 67-66, Claxton went to the line and hit both attempts as KU regained the lead, 68-67 (5:04).
  • The Seahawks could not pull away from the Warriors as WIU tied the game four more times in the final three minutes of action.
  • After Radulovic hit a big 3-pointer with 0:46 remaining to give KU a 78-75 lead, WIU's Myles answered with a trey of his own, tying the game, 78-78, with 0:29 left in the regulation.
  • Lott hit the game-winner with five seconds on the clock, draining a three from the top of the key to make it 81-78 Keiser.
  • WIU had one more chance with a 3-pointer by Myles but Claxton grabbed his seventh rebound of the game to seal the victory.
 


Game Notes

  • With the win, Keiser improves to 4-5 on the year (3-3 SUN).
  • With the win, the Seahawks are now 28-4 all-time versus the Warriors.
  • The win marked KU's seventh straight over WIU.
  • Keiser is now 16-1 all-time versus Webber International at the Student Life Center.
  • Four Seahawks scored in double-figures on Saturday (Antwan Claxton - 25; Quinton Glaspie - 15; Core'von Lott - 15; Marko Radulovic - 14).
  • Scoring in double-figures, Lott has now scored 10-or-more points with Keiser 34 times.
  • It marked the second straight 20-point game for Claxton.
  • The game-winner by Lott was his second such shot this season as the Chicago native hit the game-winning shot with 3.3 seconds on the clock versus St. Thomas on November 18 (W, 68-66).
  • The win snapped a four-game losing skid for the Seahawks.

  • The Seahawks out-rebounded the Warriors, 35-25, and held a 19-15 edge on the offensive glass.
