Four Seahawks reached double-figures in scoring as Keiser improved to 4-0 on the year, defeating the Johnson (Fla.) Suns, 96-32, on Wednesday. The 64-point victory marked the first time KU had beaten a team by 60-or-more points since the season opener versus Trinity Baptist on October 25, 2019 (107-45; 62 points).

How it Happened



First Quarter

Keiser 21, Johnson (Fla.) 4
  • The Seahawks jumped out to a 13-0 lead as Andressa Nascimento (five points) and Angela Denis (four points) went a combined 4-for-6 in the first five minutes of action.
  • A pair of made free-throws by Antawna Spells got the Suns on the board, 13-2 (3:46).  
  • KU closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run for a 17-point lead.
  • Denis closed out the quarter with a team-high eight points.  

Second Quarter

Keiser 43, Johnson (Fla.) 10
  • KU extended its lead to 21 (27-6) following a layup by Shykim Gillion with 6:28 left in the half.
  • The Seahawks held Johnson (Fla.) scoreless until the 4:32 mark following a layup by Jameice Jones, which cut the Seahawk lead to 23 (31-8).
  • Nascimento made it 38-9 with 2:35 on the clock, converting a fastbreak layup off a steal by Elliana Schaefer.
  • A 3-pointer as time expired by Stina Rehn-Andersson made the score 43-10 after 20 minutes of action.

Third Quarter

Keiser 79, Johnson (Fla.) 19
  • Chiara De Virgilio gave the Seahawks a 42-point lead (54-12) following a 3-pointer with 7:14 left in the quarter. 
  • A 7-0 run extended the Seahawk lead to 61-12 following a layup by Shykim Gillion at the 5:27 mark. 
  • Gillion gave KU a 50-point lead with a fastbreak bucket with 4:37 left in the third. The score was a result of a steal by De Virgilio. 
  • Rehn-Andersson knocked down a trey with 3:53 on the clock as KU took a 71-14 lead.
  • The Seahawks capped off the quarter with a bucket by Rehn-Andersson, 79-19 (00:56).
  • KU outscored the Suns, 36-9, in the third quarter to take a 60-point lead.

Fourth Quarter

  • The Suns opened the quarter with a 7-0 run, cutting KU's lead to 79-26 with 6:51 left to play in the game.
  • A layup by Julia Fitzwater with 4:37 on the clock resulted in the Seahawks' 90th point.
  • Each team traded buckets over the next four minutes.
  • Shikal Gillion notched the final score of the contest, with a fastbreak layup to make the score 96-32 (00:36).

  • With the win, Keiser improves to 2-0 all-time versus the Suns.
  • The 64-points victory is the first win by 60-or-more points since Keiser defeated Trinity Baptist to open the 2019-20 season, 107-45, on October 25, 2019.
  • Wednesday's win improves the Seahawks to 4-0 to start the season. It is the team's first 4-0 start since the 2008-09 campaign. In that year, the Seahawks won their first six contests to begin the season.
  • With the 96 points scored, KU is now averaging 77.7 points per game with a margin of victory of +35.2 this season.
