In a game that saw 14 lead changes and 14 ties, it was a stretch of 2:43 in fourth that determined the outcome as the Keiser women's basketball team (6-2, 2-2 SUN) suffered a 73-66 loss at Florida Memorial (3-3, 3-0 SUN) on Saturday.

With 2:43 left in the game, FMU went on a 14-0 run to close out the game and hand the Seahawks the 73-66 loss. 
 
 
How it Happened



First Quarter

Keiser 19, Florida Memorial 11
  • FMU jumped out to a 6-0 lead before a jumper by Kaitlyn Fertig got KU on the board with 7:10 left in the quarter.
  • The Seahawks tied the game, 6-6, following a Taylor Jones bucket at the 5:39 mark.
  • KU made it a 10-0 run with a layup by Elise Ellison-Coons (4:11) and took a 10-6 lead.
  • A 3-point play by FMU's Keaynna Tolbert gave the Lions a one-point lead (11-10) with 2:58 left in the first.
  • Keiser closed out the first on a 9-0 run to take a 19-11 lead.

Second Quarter

Florida Memorial 31, Keiser 28
  • The Lions went on an 8-2 run to start the second and cut the KU lead to 21-19 with 6:09 remaining in the half.
  • After FMU took a 22-21 lead, Chiara De Virgilio drained a 3-pointer to give the Seahawks a 24-22 advantage (4:36).
  • Both side exchanged buckets over the next two minutes as KU held a 26-24 lead (2:36).
  • FMU went on a 7-2 run to end the half and take a three-point lead heading into intermission. 

Third Quarter

Florida Memorial 51, Keiser 49
  • Andressa Nascimento tied the game, right out of the gates, hitting a 3-pointer (9:47).
  • The Lions regained the lead on the ensuing possession as Aliyah-Deen Ahmad hit a 3-pointer of her own (34-31).
  • A layup by Angela Denis tied the game at 35-35 (7:37) off an assist by De Virgilio.
  • The score went back-and-forth over the next minute and a-half.
  • FMU extended its lead to four (43-39) following a fastbreak layup by Tolbert (4:46).
  • The Seahawks took back the lead as Shykim Gillion drained two attempts at the charity stripe, 47-45, with 2:30 left on the clock.
  • The Lions out-scored the Seahawks, 6-2, in the final 2:30 of the third to take a 51-49 lead.

Fourth Quarter

Florida Memorial 73, Keiser 66
  • A 3-pointer by Fertig erased FMU's lead and gave KU the advantage on the scoreboard, 54-53, with 7:18 left in the game.
  • The Seahawks took their largest lead of the game (9), 64-55, after Ellison-Coons converted a layup in the paint with 4:10 remaining. 
  • A bucket by Jones gave KU a 66-59 lead with 2:43 on the game clock.
  • FMU went on a 14-0 run in the final 2:43, to take the 73-66 victory. 
 


Game Notes

  • With the loss, Keiser drops to 6-2 on the year and 2-2 in Sun Conference action.
  • The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Seahawks over the Lions.  
  • The loss drops KU to 6-9 all-time versus FMU in Miami Gardens.
  • Women's basketball falls to 18-14 all-time versus Florida Memorial in Sun Conference competition. 
  • Despite the six-point loss, KU has registered a scoring margin of +17.8 this season.
