Men's Basketball Pushes Past Florida Memorial, 69-65

Behind a career-high 21 points from Shaquille Harris, the Keiser men's basketball team picked up their third straight victory with a 69-65 win over Sun Conference foe Florida Memorial Monday evening.

How it Happened

First Half
Keiser 31, Florida Memorial 24
  • Keiser put the clamps down defensively in the opening 2:35 holding Florida Memorial to four empty trips en route to a 7-0 start.
  • The Lions slowly chipped away at their deficit, drawing to within one, 12-11, at the 12:06 mark.
  • The Seahawks then used an 11-3 run to claim their largest lead of the half, 23-14, with 7:30 left on the clock. The tail end of the run featured a 7-0 spurt which was fueled by an Antwan Claxton triple from the wing.
  • Florida Memorial got as close as three, 27-24, at the 1:41 mark but KU ran off the final four points of the half to lead 31-24.
  • Offense was hard to come by over the final 5:18 as both teams were only able to muster up one field goal each.

Second Half
Keiser 69, Florida Memorial 65
  • Keiser increased their lead to 10, their largest of the night as Quinton Glaspie finished off a layup plus the foul at the 17:25 mark to make it 37-27.
  • The teams traded baskets over the next five minutes as the Seahawks remained in front, 46-36, at the 12:02 media timeout.
  • Out of the stoppage, the Lions reeled off seven straight points to draw within a possession, 46-43, with 10:13 remaining.
  • A Harris jumper briefly halted the run, but five consecutive Lions points tied the game at 48-48 with 8:57 left in regulation.
  • Harris converted on a pair of free throws, reclaiming a two-point advantage, but a 5-0 run put FMU on top for the first time on the evening, 53-50, with 7:39 to go.
  • A fast-break layup by Claxton and Harris' lone three-pointer of the evening put the Seahawks back in front, 55-53, with 5:59 remaining in the contest.
  • The teams then exchanged leads before Terrance Clayton nailed a three-pointer as FMU led 59-57 with 4:50 to go.
  • Two free throws by Harris tied the contest but again Clayton connected from long range for a 62-59 advantage in favor of the visitors as the scoreboard showed 2:31 left.
  • Keiser ran off five unanswered points capped off by a Harris slam, giving the Seahawks a three-point cushion, 65-62, with 1:14 remaining.
  • Florida Memorial wouldn't go away quietly, hitting their 11th three-pointer of the game, evening the score at 65-65 with 57 ticks on the clock.
  • Claxton delivered the final dagger for the Seahawks with a floater in the lane as the Seahawks took the lead for good, 67-65, with 45 seconds left.
  • CoreVon Lott added two more points at the line to make the final score 69-65, Keiser.

  • 9: Keiser came up with nine steals on the evening, led by Darius Bryant with three
  • 13: Claxton and Lott totaled 13 points a piece to join Harris as the only Seahawks in double figures.
  • 16: Harris and Lott combined for 16 of Keiser's 35 rebounds with nine and seven respectively.
  • 20: Keiser converted 20 points off of 21 Florida Memorial turnovers.
  • 21: Harris dropped a career-high 21 points to lead all scorers in the win
