Patton Hits Buzzer Beater as Women's Basketball Wins on Senior Night, 68-67

The Seahawks women's basketball team defeated Florida Memorial, 68-67, on Senior Night in West Palm Beach, Fla. Prior to the game, Keiser recognized their four seniors, Alasjia Dykes, Kelly Meade, Nikki Saunders, Midori Long.

Keiser trailed by two with 4.3 seconds remaining when Emily Patton hit a heavily contested, buzzer beating three-pointer, sending the home crowd into an absolute craze. At the end of the third quarter, Patton hit a half court shot as time expired.

How it Happened

First Quarter
Keiser 16, Florida Memorial 19
  • The Seahawks held an early 5-2 advantage before Florida Memorial evened the game at five-apiece with 7:48 remaining.
  • FMU took their first lead of the contest, 8-7, on a Shawnie King three-pointer at the 5:12 mark.
  • After trading leads, the Seahawks ran off five straight points to lead 14-11 at the first media timeout with 3:26 to go in the quarter.
  • The Lions closed the period on an 8-2 run to lead 19-16.

Second Quarter
Keiser 42, Florida Memorial 37
  • After trading three-pointers, Keiser scored five unanswered points to retake a 24-22 advantage with 8:25 to go.
  • The Lions briefly tied the game before the Seahawks ran off five consecutive points to lead 29-24 with 6:33 left in the first half.
  • FMU answered right back with a 10-0 run, jumping ahead of the home team, 34-31, with three minutes remaining.
  • A Long floater in the paint proceeded a Dykes three-pointer as the Seahawks went ahead, 36-34, with 2:24 showing.
  • Following FMU's final lead of the first half, Daniela Barrios and Meade connected from deep as the Seahawks led 42-37 at halftime.
  • All nine Seahawks scored in the opening half with Patton leading the way with nine points.

Third Quarter

  • The Lions opened the second half on a 10-2 run to take a 47-44 advantage with 5:20 remaining.
  • Each team tallied nine points during the remainder of the quarter, highlighted by a Patton half court three as the buzzer sounded.

Fourth Quarter

  • Keiser started the final quarter quick, scoring six straight points to claim a 59-56 lead with 8:07 left in regulation.
  • The Seahawks remained in front until Tirone scored a layup at the 3:30 mark, putting the Lions ahead, 62-61.
  • Florida Memorial extended the margin to four before Saunders hit a jumper in the paint, bringing KU to within two, 65-63, with 55 ticks remaining. Prior to the basket, Keiser went nearly six minutes without a point.
  • After FMU split at the line, Patton was fouled in the paint, attempting a layup. The junior made both as the Seahawks trailed 66-65 with 10.6 seconds to go.
  • The Seahawks were forced to foul with 5.9 ticks, sending Danielle Bailey to the charity stripe.
  • Bailey made the first but missed the second as Patton came down with the rebound and Keiser called a timeout with 4.3 seconds showing.
  • After advancing the ball down two, Patton banked home a heavily contested three-pointer as the buzzer sounded, sending the home crowd into a frenzy as Keiser won on senior night, 68-67.
