In the Sun Conference Game of the Week, No. 14 Keiser faced a first-half deficit as large as 15 points at Warner.

The Seahawks came all the way back, however, to sweep the season series with the Royals and claim their fifth straight Sun Conference victory in dramatic fashion.

How it Happened

First Half
No. 14 Keiser 38, Warner 41
  • The Royals got off to a fast start on their home floor, jumping in front of Keiser by a 19-4 margin after just over five minutes of play.
  • The next five points went to the Seahawks, and Keiser was able to eventually cut their early deficit to single digits, 23-14, after a three-pointer from Jermar Perkins.
  • Perkins' triple was the start of an 8-2 Keiser run, and Warner held a 25-19 advantage as the first half clock went under the ten minute mark.
  • Trailing Warner 31-23 moments later, the Seahawks started an 8-2 run to draw to within just two points, 33-31, with 4:18 on the clock. All eight points during the stretch of play came from Mark Gordon, who did damage from the field and the free-throw line.
  • The Royals were able to keep Keiser from getting any closer than two points for the time being, and after the two sides had went back-and-forth, a Warner three-pointer made it 41-36 with 28 seconds remaining.
  • Jimmy Sylvain, however, made the score 41-38 with a driving layup for the half's final basket, keeping the Seahawks within a single-possession.
  • Gordon had 17 points at the halftime whistle on 4-of-4 shooting and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line, leading the KU charge to cut the early 15-point deficit to just three points.
Second Half
No. 14 Keiser 81, Warner 76
  • Chance Anderson's dunk just seconds into the half brought KU to within a single point, 41-40.
  • The Royals lead was at three, 47-44, when Gordon was called for his fourth foul with 15:36 remaining.
  • The Royals went ahead by five points with a basket, but Marko Orlic responded with back-to-back baskets to make it a one-point game once again, 49-48.
  • Warner executed on two straight possessions to establish a 54-48 lead, but the 5-0 run was halted by two free-throws from Sylvain before Gordon re-entered with 11:07 still to play.
  • The Royals knocked in a three-pointer to bring the score to 57-50, but it was answered by a 5-0 spurt from the Seahawks as KU got to within two points, 57-55, with 9:38 remaining.
  • Moments later, Maxwell Benoit's sixth three-pointer of the game gave the Royals a 62-57 advantage, but four consecutive free-throws from Gordon cut the KU deficit right back to just one point, 62-61, at the 6:55 mark.
  • The teams continued to trade stops and successful offensive trips, and Warner still clung to a four-point edge, 70-66, with 4:28 left to play.
  • The Royals continued to stifle the Seahawks' hopes of taking their first lead of the contest. That all changed however with just 1:38 to play. With Keiser trailing 73-71, Orlic took a pass from Gordon and sank his first three-pointer of the game from the top of the key, giving Keiser a 74-73 lead.
  • Benoit hit two from the charity stripe as the lead went back to Warner, but Chance Anderson had a go-ahead layup to make it 76-75 with 1:08 on the clock.
  • Warner tied it at 76-76 with a free-throw with just 39 seconds remaining, setting the stage for more heroics from Orlic. Sylvain drove into the paint and kicked it out to Orlic, who found nothing but net from the top of the key once again to make it 79-76 with 16 seconds left.
  • Warner had a good look for the tie on their ensuing possession after an offensive rebound, but it caromed off the rim to Gordon, who sealed the deal with two free-throws with just four seconds on the clock in the 81-76 victory.
KU Highlights
  • 1: Gordon missed just one shot in the game, going 5-of-6 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 in the opening half.
