Despite a strong second half surge, the Keiser men's basketball team fell on the road Saturday at Ave Maria, 80-71.
Keiser 27, Ave Maria 44Â
- Keiser won the opening tip and quickly took their first and only lead on an Antwan Claxton layup.
- Following a John Mason layup with 17:56 remaining in the half to tie the contest at 4-4, the Gyrenes answered with a 14-0 run to build an 18-4 lead.
- Darius Bryant stopped the bleeding for a moment with his first three of the contest at the 12:43 mark of the first half.
- The sophomore's three pointer was Keiser's first basket in over five minutes.
- After both teams traded scores, the Seahawks put together a 4-0 spurt to draw within 11, 28-17, but Ave Maria once again had an answer.
- The Gyrenes extended their lead to the largest of the half with a 7-0 run to make it 35-17 at the 4:01 mark.
- Another Bryant triple ended the Gyrenes run, but Keiser failed to cut farther into the deficit as they trailed 44-27 at the break.
Keiser 71, Ave Maria 80
- Trailing 50-31 with 17:27 remaining, Keiser exploded offensively with a 14-0 stretch that started with a Shaquille Harris jumper and was capped off by a Bryant three to cut the deficit to five, 50-45.
- Ave Maria ended the run on a layup by Eric Klekas at the 13:57 mark.
- Keiser kept the deficit close and drew within two, 54-52, on Bryant's fifth three of the game with 10:02 left in the contest.
- Marko Radulovic eventually leveled the score at 58-58 with a floater in the lane at the 7:17 mark.
- The Gyrenes quickly responded on the following possession to reclaim the lead for good, 60-58.
- Following a Radulovic three that put the Seahawks within two points again, 65-63, Ave Maria used a 7-2 run to keep Keiser at arm's length, 72-65.
- The Gyrenes closed out the contest at the foul line, making 7-of-9 attempts over the final 1:40.
- 3: Harris totaled a game-high three assists.
- 5: Bryant made all five of his baskets from three-point range to finish with 15 points.
- 11:Â Harris notched his first double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
- 16: Claxton led the Seahawks with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
- 28: Keiser totaled 28 made shots on 61 attempts for a 45.9 field goal percentage.
