How it Happened

First Half
No. 14 Keiser 47, Webber Int'l 42
  • The game was up-tempo right from the opening tip, and it was the Seahawks who established a 13-7 lead after a 9-0 run. Mark Gordon and Marko Orlic combined during the spurt with five points and four points, respectively.
  • Webber drew even at 13-13 with seven unanswered points, halted by Jimmy Sylvain's drive to the basket. The Warriors countered, however, with their second triple of the early going to take a 16-15 lead headed into the first media timeout with 14:21 on the clock.
  • Trailing 18-16 moments later, KU netted the game's next 11 points, getting out in transition and converting on Webber turnovers to go in front 27-18.
  • After a basket from the Warriors, Sylvain had another lay-in, Malcolm Mabry threw down an emphatic tomahawk jam, and Chance Anderson earned a basket in the paint to give the Seahawks a 33-20 lead, extending their aforementioned run to 17-2 and bringing the teams to another media timeout with 9:36 left in the half.
  • The Warriors were able to produce a run of their own, 7-0, to draw to within six points, 33-27. Off an inbounds play and with the shot clock at just two seconds, however, Orlic put a stop to it by putting in his twelfth point of the game with a smooth fadeaway jumper in the lane.
  • Webber kept on coming though and eventually extended their run to 14-2 to come within a single point, 35-34, as the clock went under five minutes to play.
  • The Seahawks kept the Warriors from regaining the lead as the two sides countered each other with successful offensive trips,
  • Webber eventually tied the game at 42-42 with a free-throw at the 1:10 mark, but Charles Chung's second three-pointer of the game on the ensuing possession and a Sylvain layup off a Webber turnover in the final seconds accounted for the half's final points, as KU led 47-42.
  • Defensively, the Seahawks held Webber to just 37.1 percent shooting in the game's opening 20 minutes. Offensively, Keiser did most of their damage from inside the paint, outscoring the Warriors 26-14 in that category.
Second Half
No. 14 Keiser 93, Webber Int'l 85
  • Gordon scored five of KU's first seven points in the second frame and the Seahawks quickly went ahead by double-digits with a 9-2 run, capped off by a thunderous Mabry tip-jam that brought it to 56-44.
  • The next eight points went to Webber, but Anderson's steal and uncontested dunk gave KU the 58-52 lead until a media timeout with 13:57 remaining.
  • Anderson's finish proved to be the start of a 12-2 run for the hosts that gave the Seahawks their largest lead of the game so far, 68-54. Sylvain and Jermar Perkins each had three-pointers during the run.
  • Webber was within nine points, 72-63, after a three-pointer. Gordon, however, converted on an old-fashioned three-point play in transition for his 20th point of the game, and the Seahawks led 75-63 with 9:07 on the clock.
  • The Warriors were able to continue to stay within striking distance though., and with KU leading by just seven, 77-70 with 5:59 left, Anderson found Ryan Kroll in the corner for a three-pointer and Gordon followed it up with a bucket to bring the score to 82-70.
  • Webber was never able to get any closer than six points from that point forward, as the Seahawks executed well to outpace the Warriors when it mattered most, 93-85.
