The Keiser women's basketball team started their second time through conference with an 80-70 setback against Johnson & Wales on Saturday inside the Student Life Center. The Seahawks recognized seven alumni after the game concluded.
Midori Long became the all-time program leader in points with a put-back at the 6:23 mark of the fourth quarter. Long surpassed Erin Riley's mark of 1,170 points from 2011-14.
Keiser 13, Johnson & Wales 18
- Johnson & Wales ran out to an early 7-2 lead and held a 12-8 advantage at the first media timeout with 4:06 showing. Daniela Barrios and Long had four points apiece to open the game.
- Nikki Saunders scored the lone field goal for either team over the next three minutes as the Seahawks trailed 12-10.
- The Wildcats tallied the next six points but Long nailed a three-pointer with five seconds to go as KU trailed 18-13.
Keiser 38, Johnson & Wales 35
- Keiser opened the new quarter on an 8-2 run, claiming their first lead of the game, 21-20, with 7:03 remaining. Emily Patton and Barrios connected from deep during the spurt.
- After flipping leads, Keondra Smith scored the next four points, giving the Seahawks a 25-22 advantage at the 6:02 mark.
- The Wildcats tied the game at 27-27 but Alasjia Dykes scored Keiser's next six points to lead 33-29 with 2:23 remaining.
- JWU evened the game on two occasions but an old fashion three-point play by Long with ten seconds left gave the Seahawks a 38-35 lead at the half.
Keiser 50, Johnson & Wales 58
- With the game tied at 42-42, the Wildcats went on a 10-2 run to take a 52-44 advantage with 3:00 remaining in the frame.
- The Seahawks got as close as four, 54-50, with 1:35 to go but JWU tallied the final four points to lead 58-50.
Keiser 70, Johnson & Wales 80
- Long scored the first eight points for the Seahawks in the final quarter but trailed 64-58 with 6:23 to go. Long's put-back at the 6:23 mark made her the all-time leading scorer in program history.
- The Seahawks stormed back with a 6-2 run to tie the game at 66-66 with 3:17 showing on the scoreboard.
- JWU settled back down, running off the next six points to go in front, 72-66 with 1:33 left.
- Keiser got as close four down the stretch before falling in the contest, 80-70.
- 3: Saunders and Long finished with three blocks apiece
- 5: Long's five assists were a season and game best
- 10: Long's 10 rebounds were a game-best with five of them coming on the offensive glass
