No. 1 Women's Soccer Advances to the NAIA Final Four With 2-1 Victory Against No. 8 Westmont

The No. 1 Keiser women's soccer team fended off No. 8 Westmont, 2-1 in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. With the win, the Seahawks advance to their second straight final four and fourth in program history on Friday evening.

How it Happened
  • Benedikte Schroeder scored just seven seconds into the game with a 55 yard boot on the opening kickoff that bounced over the keepers head. Josefine Troneby was credited with her third assist of the tournament as she rolled the pass back on the opening whistle.
  • Westmont nearly had an equalizer in the 31st minute as Savannah Scott played a perfect corner to the back post but Katie Stella's shot was blocked on the goal line by Maja Henriksson.
  • The Warriors drew even in the 36th minute as Bri Johnson ripped a 27 yard shot from the left side that hit off the right post and deflected into the back of the net.
  • The game went into the halftime break tied at 1-1 with each team registering five shots but Westmont holding a 3-2 edge on shots on goal.
  • Keiser reclaimed the lead in the 67th minute as Caroline Jensen scored off a diagonal ball from Filippa Millqvist.
  • The Seahawks defense fended off the Warriors during the remainder of the contest as Keiser advanced to their second straight NAIA final four appearance.
 
Game Notes
  • This is the second straight season that KU has advanced to the final four and fourth time in program history. The Seahawks are 1-1-1 in those matches.
  • Keiser leads the all-time series with Westmont, 2-0-1.
  • Schroeder's goal was the fastest in program history and in the NAIA tournament.
  • Jensen's game-winner was her fifth of the season.
  • Both teams registered eight shots and four shots on goal.
  • Millqvist led the game with three shots.
  • Nina Haeberlin picked up the win in goal after making three saves.
