Women's Basketball Falls to Johnson & Wales, 75-72

The Keiser women's basketball team suffered a 75-72 setback against Johnson & Wales on Saturday evening. With the loss, Keiser falls to .500 on the year.

How it Happened
First Quarter: Keiser 13, JWU 15
  • Johnson & Wales tallied the opening four points of the game to lead 4-0 with 7:49 remaining in the quarter.
  • Antigonie Sanabria scored five straight points, giving Keiser their first lead of the evening, 5-4, with 6:11 left.
  • A 5-0 burst by the Wildcats put the home team ahead, 10-5, with 3:36 showing.
  • The Seahawks answered with an 8-2 run to lead 13-12 but Ayshia Scott hit a three-pointer with one second remaining to give the Wildcats a 15-13 advantage.

Second Quarter: Keiser 34, JWU 36
  • The opening five minutes of the quarter remained a two point game despite three lead changes and six ties.
  • The Wildcats claimed the largest advantage of the frame, 30-27, following a Shikal Gillon layup and free throw at 4:47 mark.
  • A pair of free throw makes by Lindsey O'Sullivan and a three-pointer from Alasjia Dykes put the Seahawks ahead, 32-30, with 3:34 to go.
  • JWU closed the half on a 6-2 run, taking a 36-34 advantage into the intermission.
 
Third Quarter: Keiser 54, JWU 53
  • For the second straight quarter, Long evened the game with a layup in the opening minute.
  • Emily Patton followed with a three-pointer to lead, 39-36, at the 8:45 mark.
  • A 7-2 spurt by Johnson & Wales trimmed the Seahawks advantage to two, 43-41, with 5:51 left in the quarter.
  • A Patton three-pointer and four straight points from Antigonie Sanabria gave Keiser their largest lead of the game, 50-43, with 3:30 to go in the period.
  • The Wildcats responded with eight unanswered points, springing ahead 51-50, with 1:16 left in the quarter.
  • The teams traded three leads down the stretch with Keiser clinging to a 54-53 advantage with one quarter to go.
 
Fourth Quarter: Keiser 72, JWU 75
  • JWU tallied the opening seven points of the final frame to lead 60-54 with 7:49 remaining.
  • The teams traded buckets until there was 1:07 remaining in regulation with Keiser facing their largest deficit of the game, 69-62.
  • The Seahawks erupted with an 11-2 run to get within a point, 73-72, with 20 seconds remaining. During the stretch, Patton scored five points.
  • However, the Wildcats converted from the line down the stretch, defeating the Seahawks, 75-72.

  • 3: Sanabria finished with a game-best three steals on the defensive end.
  • 5: Sanabria dished out a game-high five assists.
  • 6-14: Patton and Sanabria each finished the game 6-of-14 from the field while Patton had a game-high 21 points.
  • 11-11: the Seahawks were perfect from the charity stripe in the second half.
  • 14: Long pulled down a season-high 14 rebounds including eight on the offensive glass. The senior finished with a double-double in the game.
  • 28: Keiser was dominate in the paint, finishing with 28 points.
