No. 1 Women's Soccer Cruises Past The Master's 8-1 in the NAIA Opening Round

The No. 1 Keiser women's soccer team upended The Master's, 8-1, in the opening round of the 2019 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. With the victory, the Seahawks advance to the second round of the National Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama.

How it Happened
  • The Seahawks scored the opening goal in the 14th minute as Filippa Millqvist scored off a great cross from Tova Nilsson.
  • Just one minute later, Matilda Ovenberger capitalized on a give-away in the back for her 19th goal of the season.
  • Ovenberger netted her second goal of the game in the 17th minute off an excellent cross by Millqvist.
  • In the 29th minute, Benedikte Schroeder scored an absolute laser on a 35-yard free kick to lead 4-0.
  • Keiser made it 5-0 in the 31st minute as Maja Henriksson scored an unassisted goal.
  • The Seahawks nearly had a sixth goal in the 41st minute as the keeper was caught out of the box but Linnea Axengren's shot was cleared off the line by a defender.
  • Maxi Krug bagged the final goal of the first half in the 42nd minute off a diagonal pass from Caroline Jensen to lead 6-0.
  • KU thought they had a seventh goal as time expired but Caroline Jensen's shot from 40 yards went in but was called off.
  • Neither team scored in the second half until the 75th minute when Millqvist scored her second goal of the game off a pair of assists from Ovenberger and Nilsson.
  • Ovenberger completed the hat-trick in the 81st minute as she tapped in the through ball from M. Henriksson.
  • The Master's ruined the shutout in the 85th minute as Kayla Sims scored off a corner from Hannah Bahr.
 
 
Game Notes
  • The eight goals scored this afternoon were the most in program history during the NAIA Opening Round.
  • Keiser took a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series against the Mustangs.
  • The Seahawks tied the program record for wins in a season with 20.
  • KU extended their winning streak to 18 consecutive.
  • Keiser outshot The Master's 28-5 including a 19-4 edge with shots on goal.
  • Krug led the way with four shots off the bench.
  • Nilsson had a game-best two assists.
