The No. 1 team in the NAIA and top overall seed in the Sun Conference tournament, Keiser women's soccer team defeated the second-seeded and No. 4 team in the NAIA, Southeastern Fire, 2-1, in the Sun Conference Championship game. This was the fourth straight meeting in the championship game, with the series standing at 1-1-2.
How it Happened
- The Seahawks struck first in the 13th minute as Larisa Weber one-touched home a cross from Matilda Ovenberger.
- Keiser nearly had a second goal in the 21st minute but Madeleine Berghult's shot went off the post and out of play.
- The score line remained 1-0 at halftime despite the Seahawks outshooting the Fire, 7-2.
- The first scoring chance of the second half came in the 55th minute as Ovenberger's shot went off the crossbar.
- Southeastern tied the game in the 75th minute as Uchenna Kanu scored off a pass from Bania Dorian.
- Not even a minute later, Keiser went back on top as Caroline Jensen's shot deflected off a Fire player and into the back of the net.
- The Seahawks nearly tallied a third goal in the 86th minute as Benedikte Schroeder's free kick from 35 yards out was barely saved.
- KU anchored down during the final four minutes as they claimed their sixth tournament championship in program history.
