Men's Basketball Earns a Road Win at Morris in the Season Opener

The Keiser University men's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with a dominant 89-66 victory at Morris College. The Seahawks pulled away in the second half as first-year Head Coach Tae Norwood earned the win in his Seahawks' coaching debut.
 
How it Happened
First Half: Keiser 32, Morris 27
  • Chance Anderson accounted for the Seahawks' opening basket of the 2019-2020 season, finding some space inside the paint to tie it at 2-2 in the early going.
  • The two sides exchanged baskets to bring the score to 6-6, when Keiser went on a 7-0 run to go in front 13-6 with 13:36 to play in the half.  During the spurt, five points came from Anderson.
  • The Keiser lead reached double-digits for the first time, 20-10, after Marko Orlic connected on a triple with 9:01 on the clock.
  • The first half lead grew to as large as 12 points on two occasions, with the last coming after two Jermar Perkins' free-throws gave KU a 24-12 lead with 6:36 remaining until the halftime whistle.
  • A 15-4 run by Morris brought the hosts all the way to within a single point, 28-27 with 1:38 on the clock.
  • However, Keiser stemmed the tide, netting the final four points of the half on a Marko Radulovic three-pointer and an Anderson free-throw to lead 32-27.
 
Second Half:: Keiser 89, Morris 66
  • The first eight points of the final 20 minutes belonged to KU, as the Seahawks established a 40-27 lead following a second-chance put back from Germele Florent with 16:11 remaining.
  • Orlic's steal and layup in transition at the 15:17 mark gave KU the largest lead of the game so far, 44-29.
  • Morris responded with seven unanswered points, converting on a traditional three-point play to draw back to within single digits, 44-36, with 14:47 left to play.
  • Perkins and Anderson combined to score the next six points, upping the KU lead to 50-36 as the clock went under 13 minutes to play.
  • Again, Morris drew to within single-digits, 50-41, with 11:07 to play, but Keiser proceeded to go on an 18-6 run to build a comfortable 68-47 lead as the clock went under seven minutes.
  • Anderson continued to dominate inside, as his basket gave the Seahawks' the largest lead of the game, 81-56, with 3:42 on the clock.
  • Corey Davis Jr. contributed five points down the stretch as the Seahawks sealed the 89-66 win on the road.
 
KU Highlights
  • 1: It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
  • 2: Keiser trailed on two occasions all game, both coming in the early minutes of the opening half.
  • 5: The Seahawks had balance on the offensive end with five different players finishing in double-figures points.
  • 7-7-15: Kroll didn't miss from the field, going 7-of-7 on his way to a career-high 15 points. He also dished out a career-high seven assists.
  • 11-11: Orlic recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Radulovic finished with 11 points from the backcourt as well.
  • 12: Malcolm Mabry collected a game-high 12 rebounds. 
  • 13-10: 13 players made an appearance in the season opener, with ten appearing in the scoring column.
  • 17-30: Perkins' 17 points came from off the bench, as the Seahawks found 30 points from the non-starters.
  • 18-10: Anderson joined Orlic with a double-double, netting a game-high 18 points to go along with ten rebounds.
  • 54: Keiser did most of their damage from up close, with 54 points coming from inside the paint.
  • 57-42: The Seahawks dominated on the glass, outrebounding Morris 57-42.
