Men’s Basketball Win Streak Extends to Five, Seahawks Rout Florida Memorial

Keiser Highlights
  • Marko Orlic was lights out from the floor on his way to a new career-high total of 27 points. Orlic went 11-of-14 from the field and canned 5-of-8 from beyond the arc while also chipping in on the glass with seven rebounds.
  • CJ Fisher grabbed a new season-high 11 rebounds, and his 12 points came on 5-of-8 shooting for his first Keiser double-double.
  • Andrija Matic had a big night offensively and on the glass, while Jermar Perkins was the fourth Seahawk in double-figure scoring.
  • The reserve trio of Javen Soto, Bryce Andrews, and Matt Mckewin came ready to play and made an impact on both ends of the floor.
 
Turning Point                                                                                
The Seahawks went into the halftime break with a run of 15 unanswered points, building a healthy 54-21 lead at the intermission that proved to be more than enough of an advantage to pick up the road victory.
 
How it Happened
  • Both sides came out and traded successful offensive trips, as it went back-and-forth until the score sat at 10-9 Florida Memorial in the opening minutes.
  • Keiser however gained the first significant separation from the Lions with what turned into a 13-3 run to go in front 25-13 with 15:06 remaining, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers from Orlic.
  • The Lions' ended the Keiser run with a deep two-point jumper, but the Seahawks once again went on a big surge, this time with 12 unanswered points to bring the advantage to 37-15 with 11:29 on the clock. Orlic and Fisher contributed four points apiece during the stretch of play.
  • Florida Memorial worked their way back to within 20 points of Keiser at 39-21 following a made three-pointer, but the Seahawks then proceeded to finish the half on their largest run yet, pouring in the final 15 points to go into the break in firm control at 54-21 following a layup from Matt McKewin.
  • The two teams traded offensive blows in the opening minutes of the second half, and the Lions were able to draw to within 30 points in the opening minute before three Keiser free-throws pushed it right back to 60-28 with 17:15 left.
  • When leading 66-35 moments later, the Seahawks netted five straight points to make it 71-35 with 10:59 on the clock, as led by two layups from Perkins.
  • Keiser continued to be in firm control throughout the remainder of the contest, and held a lead as large as 39 points at 87-48 with 3:57 on the clock following a spurt of seven unanswered Seahawk points capped off by a Fisher finish in the lane.
  • The final buzzer brought the finishing touches to a complete performance from the Seahawks in the 92-57 result.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • The Seahawks came out firing in the dominant opening half and shot 23-of-31 from the floor, a 74.2 percent clip, to produce a season-high offensive output of 54 points.
  • There was a distinct difference in the rebounding category, as Keiser corralled 43 rebounds to Florida Memorial's 17.
  • Keiser produced 48 points in the paint to Florida Memorial's 20, and the Seahawks' interior scoring was a primary reason for why KU finished 33-of-51 from the field, a season-high 64.7 percent clip.
  • The Keiser bench outscored the Florida Memorial counterpart, 24-12, as led by Soto's nine points.
 
Game Notes
  • Keiser now leads the all-time series 23-5 following the victory on the road that gave the Seahawks the season sweep.
  • The contest represented the Seahawks' fifth consecutive Sun Conference win and eighth in the last nine conference outings.
  • Keiser has now played to a record of 8-1 in the New Year, and the Seahawks are alone in third place in the Sun Conference standings with four regular season games remaining.
  • Orlic set a new career-high with 27 points, and Fisher grabbed a new Keiser career-high of 11 rebounds.

"We came out to play today," expressed Head Coach Bob Starkman. "We went inside often and executed the game plan. We were great on the glass with a big advantage, and a key was how we took the halftime lead and really protected it."
