The Seahawks volleyball team fell on the road Saturday afternoon in conference play, falling to Southeastern University, 3-1 in Lakeland. Offensively, the Seahawks were led by
Abbie Seward, who finished with 22 kills and 10 digs, for her ninth double-double of the year.
Jordan Odom also finished with a double-double on the afternoon, leading the Seahawks with 16 digs while also picking up 13 kills. Sun Conference Setter of the Week,
Brooklyn VandeHei also registered a double-double, leading the Seahawks with 43 assists, while adding 12 digs. Senior,
Morgan Leff tallied 13 digs and added a pair of service aces, moving her into a tie for fifth place all-time in KU history, with 92.
Set One
The Seahawks set the tone early in the opening set, jumping out to an 11-4 advantage, led by four kills from Seward. While Keiser remained in front, the Fire got as close as 20-18 before KU pulled away with the 25-20 set win, taking the 1-0 lead.
Set Two
The second set began as a back-and-forth affair that saw five lead changes before the Fire rattled off three straight points to lead 18-16. The Seahawks then tallied four of the next six points behind a pair of kills from
Eshe Malone and Odom to draw the set even at 20-20. Southeastern answered by scoring the next four points to regain the lead, 24-20 when the Seahawks responded with a 4-0 run of their own, led by three kills by Seward to tie the set again, 24-25. However, SEU tallied three of the next four points to take the set, 27-25, tying the match at 1-1.
Set Three
The Seahawks jumped out to a 7-4 lead when the Fire used a 4-1 spurt to tie the set at 8-8. Both teams then matched each other point-for-point until the Fire tallied back-to-back points to lead 19-17. Southeastern remained in control down the stretch, and despite the Seahawks closing within 23-22, the Fire pulled away with the 25-23 victory, taking a 2-1 advantage.
Set Four
The Fire controlled the tempo out of the gates, taking a 9-4 lead and never looked back. The Seahawks were able to chip away at the deficit, getting as close as 18-16, before Southeastern rallied to score the final seven points, coming away with the 25-16 set win, winning the match 3-1.
