Set One
Play began with both teams matching each other point for point until
Eshe Malone's kill sparked a 4-0 Keiser run to give the Seahawks an 8-5 advantage. However, St. Thomas answered with a 3-0 spurt to draw even at 8-8. The score then bounced back-and-forth, including three lead changes when VandeHei delivered a kill, igniting a 3-0 burst for the Seahawks, pushing them ahead 17-14. The Bobcats responded by taking four of the next six points, closing within 19-18 before Keiser went on a 4-2 run of their own to stretch their lead out to 23-20. After two quick STU points and a Keiser timeout, the Seahawks snagged the final two points to take the set 25-22.
Set Two
With the score even at 5-5, Keiser capitalized on a 7-2 run to swing ahead 12-7 before the Bobcats went on an 8-0 run to regain control, leading 15-12. However, kills from Odom and
Faryn Salazar highlighted a 3-0 burst to deadlock the match at 15-15. Both squads then split the next 14 points, and with the score knotted at 22-22, Malone picked up her second kill of the set to give the Seahawks a 23-22 lead. However, STU came away with the final three points, taking the set 25-23 and evening the match at one set apiece.
Set Thee
The Seahawks took advantage of multiple STU attacking errors to open the set with a 5-0 margin. The Bobcats then began to chip away at their deficit, eventually drawing even at 8-8. After an Odom kill halted the STU run, the Bobcats came away with the next two points to take their first lead of the set, 10-9. A St. Thomas attack error briefly tied the set at 10-10, but STU tallied the next three points to go ahead 13-10 before stretching their lead out to 22-15. A
Stephanie Sanchez kill then kick-started a 5-0 burst for Keiser, shrinking the gap to 22-20. However, the Bobcats scored three of the next five points to take the set 25-22, taking a 2-1 lead.
Set Four
Keiser jumped out to an 8-2 lead behind a pair of kills from Seward and VandeHei and continued to control the set, stretching their advantage out to as many as nine, 13-4. The Bobcats began to cut into the Seahawks lead, but were only able to get as close as 17-12 before KU took eight of the final 11 points to come away with the 25-15 win, tying the match at two sets apiece.
Set Five
Seward registered three of the first four kills of the set, lifting KU to a 3-1 lead before the Bobcats tallied the next two points to knot the score up at 3-3. After both squads exchanged a point, the Seahawks went on a 3-1 spurt to regain the lead at 7-5 before St. Thomas responded with a 3-0 run of their own to take their first lead of the final set, 8-7. Keiser scored the next two points to regain the advantage, 9-8. However, the Bobcats went on a 7-0 run to close out the set, winning 15-9 to pull away with the 3-2 win.
