How it Happened
- The Seahawks jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first behind back-to-back, one-out RBI singles from Rivera and Carlos Lopez.
- Ave Maria got a run back in the bottom half despite not registering a hit. Allen was hit by a pitch to begin the inning and moved to third on a pair of wild pitches. He later scored during a rundown between first and second.
- The Gyrenes equalized the game in the third on a two-out solo home run Ryan Soto.
- However, Keiser went back in front during the fourth on a two-out RBI single to short by Lara and upped the advantage to two in the fifth on a solo bomb by Rivera.
- In the seventh, AMU capitalized on a Seahawks defensive miscue by plating an unearned run to climb within, 4-3, but KU got the run back in the next frame.
- Pena led off with an infield single to short and moved to second a wild pitch. Following a groundout, Karsten Sherman came up with a huge pinch-hit single to right, to lead 5-3.
- The Seahawks then broke the game open in the ninth with five runs on five hits.
- Lara opened the frame with a triple to right and Casanueva followed with a walk. Crocitto then pushed both runners across with a double down the left field line, making it 7-3.
- Rivera followed with an RBI double to center to make it 8-3 when AMU finally recorded the first out of the inning. Following a stolen base from Rivera, Pena ripped an RBI single to center, pushing the margin to six.
- CJ Fitzpatrick plated the final run of the frame with a double to center, making it 10-3.
- Ave Maria wouldn't go away quietly as they scored three runs on just one hit to get within 10-6 with two outs.
