Women's Basketball's Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Short at St. Thomas

Turning Point
With the game tied at 48-48 with 5:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, St. Thomas went on a 7-0 run to go in front, 55-48.

How it Happened
  • St. Thomas scored the first four points of the game before back-to-back baskets by Long knotted the game at the 7:46 mark.
  • However, the Bobcats answered right back with seven unanswered points to regain an 11-4 lead with 4:39 to go in the opening frame.
  • After trading baskets, a Saunders layup and a Kelly Meade three-pointer brought KU to within two with 2:29 showing, but STU held on to a 17-13 advantage going into the second quarter.
  • Meade connected on her second three-pointer of the game to get within one, but the Bobcats rattled off the next five points to stretch the margin to 22-16 at the 6:37 mark.
  • The Seahawks closed the gap to three before St. Thomas closed the half on 13-2 run to lead 35-21 at the break.
  • Keiser used a 7-0 run out of the locker-room, capped off by a Donivan Dyson jumper to get within 35-28 with 6:05 remaining.
  • St. Thomas then regrouped and tallied the next six points to take their largest lead of the game, 41-28 at the 3:38 mark.
  • Riley then connected on a three-pointer, jump-starting an 8-0 run capped off by a layup from Aleksandra Trisic while being fouled, to trail 41-36 with 2:05 left in the third.
  • Both teams traded buckets down the stretch with STU holding a 46-41 lead going into the final quarter.
  • A layup by Saunders and Riley's three-pointer at the 6:24 mark tied the contest at 46-46, the first-time since the opening quarter.
  • Kienna Brooks then converted a fast break layup to put STU back ahead but Long converted at the free-throw line, retying the game at 48-apiece.
  • The Bobcats then fueled a 7-0 run to take a 55-48 lead at the four-minute mark, and wouldn't allow the Seahawks any closer than four, before coming away with the 67-58 win.
