The final 4:37 of the third quarter proved to be the difference as the Seahawks were outscored 11-4 after climbing to within two points.
How it Happened
- Johnson & Wales clung to an early 5-2 lead before baskets by Starbria Hudson and Long gave Keiser a 6-5 advantage with 6:08 to go.
- However, the Wildcats answered right back with a 17-4 run to retake a 22-10 lead at the 2:08 mark.
- Hudson then connected on a jumper to start an 8-3 run capped by a Kelly Meade three-pointer with one second left to trail 25-18.
- JWU pushed the margin to 31-22 when Keiser used a 12-3 spurt to get back within one, 35-34, with 3:31 remaining in the quarter.
- Both teams would score four points down the stretch with the Wildcats holding a 39-38 advantage at the halftime break.
- Long laid the ball in to start the third, making it 40-39 KU, but JWU responded with nine unanswered points to regain a 48-40 lead at the 7:20 mark.
- The Seahawks wouldn't go away as they tallied eight of the next ten points to make it a two-point game with 4:37 left in the quarter.
- Keiser was then outscored 11-4 during the remainder of the quarter and trailed 61-52 heading into the final period.
- After Dyson converted a layup while being fouled to start the fourth, Johnson & Wales went on a 13-4 run to take their largest lead of the game, 74-59, with 2:38 remaining.
- KU had one last run in them as they went on an 11-1 spurt to get within five, 75-50, with 42 ticks showing, but couldn't get any closer, falling 80-70.
