No. 2 Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Embry-Riddle in Season Opener

KU HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Seahawks started off their second year as a program just like their inaugural season, claiming a season-opening win at home.
  • Jacob Bomberry led Kieser in goals (4), assists (4), points (4), and ground balls (8) during the opener.
  • The defensive charge was led by Emmanuel Walker, forcing four turnovers, while Channing Thomas had three.
  • In his collegiate debut, Christian Esquilin was fantastic in the face-off circle going 19-of-27 with six ground balls The Seahawks only lost eight face-offs on the day.
  • Dylan Sharpe, making his debut in goal for Keiser, recorded ten saves and four ground balls.
  • Keiser outshot Embry-Riddle 35-28 and held a 52-43 edge on ground balls.
 
TURNING POINT
After the Eagles netted the opening goal of the second quarter to take a 4-3 lead, the Seahawks answered with five unanswered goals to back in front 8-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Embry-Riddle scored the first three goals of the contest before Lucas Muzzey got the first goal of the 2018 season off an assist by Bomberry at the 4:13 mark.
  • Craig Marentette assisted on the final two goals of the quarter to Bomberry and Nolan Duncan, tying the game at 3-3 going into the second quarter.
  • After the Eagles scored the opening goal of the second, Eddie Grieco started a 5-0 run to reclaim an 8-4 advantage. During the stretch, Hunter East scored his first collegiate goal.
  • However, ERAU netted the next two goals to get within two but Marenttette scored a man-up goal with seven seconds left before halftime to lead 9-6.
  • After exchanging goals to start the third, Bomberry and Marentette scored to take a 12-8 advantage into the final quarter of play.
  • Bomberry netted the only Keiser goal in the fourth but the Seahawks were able to hold on a for a 13-11 victory.
