Turning Point
The Seahawks held a lead for the final 17 minutes of the second half until the Bobcats forced overtime with a deep three-pointer from leading scorer Justin Brown in the final seconds of regulation, giving St. Thomas the opportunity to seal it in overtime.
How it Happened
- The Seahawks came out strong from the opening tip to build a 9-0 advantage, finding success inside offensively and holding the hosts without a point until the 11:01 mark by forcing eight early turnovers and seeing the Bobcats miss their first 11 shots.
- St. Thomas proceeded to go on a 14-4 spurt to seize their first lead of the game, 14-13, with 6:58 on the clock as leading scorer Justin Brown netted the team's first 14 points.
- Javen Soto came in off the bench however and provided a spark for the Seahawks, putting KU back in front with a left-handed hook in the paint before converting two free-throws with six minutes to play until the break to make it 17-14.
- The Seahawk edge grew to four points after an Orlic jumper made it 21-17 with 2:59 on the clock, but the Bobcats responded by scoring ten of the final 12 points of the half to lead 27-23, capped off by a three at the horn.
- Much like in the first half, KU contained the Bobcat offense out of the gate in half two. The Seahawks held St. Thomas without a field goal for the first 7:25 of play in the final 20 minutes, and gained a 35-27 lead with 13:03 on the clock.
- The Bobcats broke the drought with a triple, and that was the start of a 14-7 run for the hosts to draw them to within a single point, 42-41 with 5:46 on the clock.
- Two minutes and 25 seconds later the Seahawks clung to a one-point lead once again, 46-45, but created some separation with five consecutive points as started by an Orlic layup.
- The Bobcats drew to within one once again at 53-52 with under a minute to play, but Radulovic canned a three-pointer on the Seahawks' ensuing possession to make it 56-52 with 26 seconds remaining
- Brown was fouled and made two free-throws with 19 seconds left before Orlic was intentionally fouled, with KU leading 56-54.
- Orlic split the pair, and Brown was then able to find his mark on a deep, contested three in the waning moments of regulation to tie it up 57-57 and force the extra five minutes of play.
- The Seahawks regrouped and accounted for the first four points of the overtime to go ahead 61-57 after a basket from Ryan Kroll and Orlic.
- St. Thomas had a response of their own however, scoring a basket in the paint and converting two free-throws to tie it at 61-61 with 2:22 on the clock.
- Both defenses clenched down and kept the opposing offenses scoreless until St. Thomas' final possession, which resulted in Philip Saunders' fourth three-pointer of the game with just three seconds remaining.
- Keiser was unable to then produce an attempt before the horn, as the Bobcats secured the 64-61 result.
