Turning Point
The Seahawks jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, which seemed to set the tone early and build Keiser's confidence in a game in which they never trailed.
How it Happened
- The opening minutes firmly belonged to Keiser, as the 12-2 double-digit lead at the 16:14 mark was earned by interior play from Matic and Gedeon along with an Orlic trifecta.
- Leading 14-7 moments later, the Seahawks went on a 12-0 run to go in front 26-7 with 10:33 on the clock, a stretch that was highlighted by back-to-back-to-back threes, two from Orlic and the third from Radulovic.
- Keiser later used a 10-1 run to establish the largest lead of the game, 38-16, with 5:02 on the clock until the break. All ten of those points came from inside the paint or at the free-throw line.
- Florida Memorial never got any closer than 17 points, as the teams went back-and-forth before KU went into the break ahead, 48-29.
- A Matic basket in the paint with 15:01 remaining in the contest placed the score at 57-37, as the teams exchanged successful offensive trips down the floor.
- Soto converted on a basket in the paint to make it 60-42 before Florida Memorial went on an 8-2 run, trimming the KU lead to ten with 11:22 left.
- Keiser netted four consecutive points after a timeout to make it 66-50, but the Lions continued to put the pressure on with a frenetic pace that yielded nine unanswered points, drawing the guests to within seven, 66-59 with just 4:19 remaining.
- After exchanging baskets, Radulovic found his mark on a three ball to put the Seahawks back in front by double-digits, 71-61 with 2:31 left.
- Keiser was never threatened from that point forward, as the Seahawks were able to buckle down on the defensive end and thwart any comeback hopes for Florida Memorial, holding the Lions to just two points in the remaining time to preserve the 74-63 Sun Conference victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Keiser shot the ball well all day, and finished 26-of-50 from the floor for a 52 percent clip. The Seahawks were 16-of-27, 59.3 percent, in the dominant opening half.
- 42 points came inside the paint for KU, while Florida Memorial produced just 26 for that category.
- Working the ball into the post effectively drew Florida Memorial fouls, and Keiser sunk 17-of-23 attempts from the charity stripe for a 73.9 percentage.
- Florida Memorial shot just 34.3 percent from the field on 23-of-67 shooting, as the Seahawk defense continued to make things difficult for their opponents.
Game Notes
- Keiser extended their advantage to 22-5 all-time in games against Florida Memorial.
- Gedeon set a new career-high with the 20 points as a key part of the frontcourt duo alongside Matic, who dictated play from the frontcourt.
- Orlic's seven assists tied his career-high, as he often distributed passes on time to cutters headed to the basket.
Coach's Corner
"For the most part we stayed to our game plan," said Head Coach
Bob Starkman. "The guys got a big lead in the first half and then we had some fatigue breakdowns, but they finished strong for the W. We are going to build on this!"
