The final five minutes of the third quarter proved to be the difference this afternoon. The Seahawks clawed to within four when Ave Maria closed the frame on a 10-3 run to lead 40-29, going into the fourth quarter.
How it Happened
- Ave Maria held an early 8-3 advantage before Long tallied four straight points to pull the Seahawks to within one at the 3:22 mark.
- However, the Gyrenes outscored Keiser 9-5 during the remainder of the quarter to take a 17-12 lead into the second frame.
- A low scoring second saw AMU narrowly outpace the Seahawks, 9-8 to hold a 26-20 advantage at the half.
- After Ave Maria scored the first four points of the third, Long scored the next six points to climb within, 30-26 with 5:14 remaining.
- Out of the media timeout, AMU closed the quarter on a 10-3 spurt to lead 40-29, going into the fourth.
- A Starbria Hudson jumper and a pair of Samantha Fernandez free throws cut the deficit to 40-33, the closest KU would get.
