No. 8 Women's Soccer Shutout Ave Maria 13-0 in Conference Opener

The No. 8 Keiser women's soccer team began its quest for a 12th consecutive Sun Conference championship with a 13-0 shutout of Ave Maria on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Seahawks remain unbeaten in TSC opening matches during the stretch.
 
Turning Point
The turning point happened in the ninth minute when Ebba Gustafsson tallied her first of three goals in the contest. Gustafsson ripped a shot from the top box after the keeper made an initial save on an Olivia White header off a corner by Filippa Millqvist.
 
 
How It Happened
  • For the third straight game, Gustafsson tallied the game's opening goal in the eighth minute of play.
  • Gustafsson doubled the lead in the 25th minute with her second goal of the game on assist by Tova Nilsson.
  • Three minutes later, Madeleine Berghult played a through ball that was one-touched on by Gustafsson, and scored by Cooper Mullins, making it 3-0.
  • The Seahawks would then come out of the half on fire, scoring ten more goals.
  • Keiser needed just two minutes to find the back of the net as Emma Holmskov scored off an assist by Nilsson.
  • In the 54th minute, Milqvist upped the margin to 5-0 when she scored off a rebounded shot by Riley MacLeod.
  • Keiser then added four more goals over the next 15 minute, highlighted by the hat trick goal from Gustafsson in the 62nd minute.
  • The Seahawks continued riding the momentum, adding four more goals including a pair by senior, Beth Smyth to win 13-0.

  • Keiser improved to 10-0-0 all-time against Ave Maria.
  • The Seahawks defense didn't allow a shot or corner during the contest.
  • Keiser has yet to allow a goal in their five victories on the season.
  • Nine different Keiser players found the back of the net.
  • The hat trick by Gustafsson was the first of her career.
  • Millqvist finished with four assists while Berghult, Nilsson, and Riley MacLeod had two assists apiece.

Coach's Corner
Mat Dunn said, "Great to start conference play off with a big win today. We have been averaging 28 shots all season and to have 58 today, shows that we are able to create many chances on goal. To score 13 goals this afternoon was big for our attackers. Lastly, compliments to our defense today as they didn't allow a single shot or corner."
