The Keiser University Seahawks fell in their season opener to Aquinas College 3-0 on Wednesday evening in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Freshman
Abbie Seward paced the offensive attack with six kills, while senior
Samantha Thompson chipped in five. Keiser had a strong defensive effort at the net with 12 assisted blocks including Thompson having five block assists.
Set One
After Aquinas took the first point of the season, the Seahawks scored the next five points behind a pair of service aces by
Alyssa Robinson, to lead 5-1. Keiser stretched their lead to the largest of the set at 8-2, but the Saints answered with an 11-1 spurt to regain a 13-9 advantage. KU closed to within two on three different occasions with the final time being 16-14, before Aquinas went on to win the set by a score of 25-16.
Set Two
The Saints raced out to a 15-4 advantage when a pair of kills by Seward helped the Seahawks get to within 15-8. However, the Saints matched Keiser with four consecutive points to extend the margin to 19-8 and forcing the Seahawks into a timeout. Aquinas continued their strong play and won the set, 25-13.
Set Three
Aquinas continued where they left off in the second set by taking a 17-6 lead and forcing head coach
Chris Taylor to call a timeout. The Seahawks were unable to rebound and fell in the third set, 25-13.
