Turning Point
The turning point in tonight's contest came in the first two innings for St. Thomas when the Bobcats scored four runs to take the 4-0 advantage. St. Thomas plated three runs in the bottom of the first, followed by one in the second as Keiser would not overcome the four-run deficit.
Â
How it Happened
- The Seahawks stranded two runners on base in the top half of first to begin the contest as Tivon Faneyte and Jack Curtis each struck out to end the inning.
- The Bobcats wasted no time in plating the game's first run as Rivera led off the inning with a single followed by Canino's double to bring Rivera home from first.
- St. Thomas plated two more runs on the next two batters, taking the 3-0 lead with nobody out.
- Kyle Keatts was able to reel it back in, getting the next three batters out including back-to-back strikeouts to end the first inning.
- Keiser saw another chance to score in the top of the second go by as Gabby Mundo was punched out swinging with runners on second and third to end the inning.
- The Bobcats extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom half of the second when Canino laced a single up the middle, bringing Centeno home from second.
- The Keiser offense was held hitless and scoreless until the top half of the fifth inning when the Seahawks scored three runs on two hits to cut the deficit to 4-3.
- After the Bobcats intentionally walked Keivan Berges to load the bases with one out, Faneyte was plunked by a pitch to bring home the first Keiser run in Mundo.
- Curtis then roped a single down the right field line to bring home Dylan Dore from third, keeping the bases loaded with one out.
- Berges scored the next Keiser run in the fifth on a wild pitch, advancing Faneyte to third and Curtis to second.
- The Seahawks were unable to score the tying run, stranding Faneyte on third after back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning.
- St. Thomas had a chance to extend the lead in the bottom of the fifth but Keatts sat down back-to-back Bobcats to end the scoring threat, preserving the one-run deficit.
- The Bobcats threatened to score again in the bottom of the sixth when St. Thomas hit back-to-back-to-back singles with just one out.
- Keatts displayed his grit yet again, recording consecutive strikeouts to end the inning for the second consecutive inning, bringing his strikeout total to seven and keeping the Seahawks within just one run.
- The Seahawks had another chance to plate the game-tying run in the top half of the seventh with runners on first and second with one out.
- However, the inning ended in a double-play lineout by Carlos Pena, ending the Seahawks' scoring threat.
- The Bobcats put the game away in the bottom of the eighth inning when the host squad scored three runs on four hits and two Keiser errors, stretching their lead to 7-3.
