How it Happened
- After Ave Maria scored the opening basket of the game, the Seahawks stormed back with six unanswered points to lead 6-2 at the 5:34 mark.
- Keiser led by as many as seven in the opening quarter, 11-4, before Ave Maria closed to within 15-13 with 34 seconds remaining.
- However, a Davis layup with 18 seconds gave KU a 17-13 advantage at the end of the quarter.
- The Seahawks used an 8-3 spurt to open the second for their largest lead of the game, 27-16 at the 6:14 mark. In that span, Kelly Meade and Davis had four points apiece.
- The Gyrenes got as close as 29-27 with 1:02 left but a Donivan Dyson jumper in the paint made it 31-27 KU at the halftime break.
- In the third, AMU outscored the Seahawks 15-2 to claim a 42-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
- Following a Gyrenes basket to open the final quarter, Davis tallied seven straight KU points to climb within 44-40 with 6:06 remaining in regulation.
- However, AMU held off Keiser down the stretch and went on to win by the final of 62-51.
