TURNING POINT
With 1:47 remaining in regulation and the game tied at 70-70, the Seahawks were unable to convert while St. Thomas finished the game with four unanswered points to prevail 74-70.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After three lead changes started the game, the Bobcats extended the margin to 8-5 but Jenkins hit a three from the top knotting it at 8-8.
- St. Thomas retook a brief lead before a Jenkins three pointer and a pair of Whittaker free throws put Keiser back in front 13-10 with 14:42 remaining.
- STU scored the next four points to regain a 14-13 advantage but the Seahawks matched them with the next four to hold a 17-14 lead at the 12:34 mark.
- Both teams traded buckets to tie the contest at 19-19 with 9:50 left in the half. Following the media timeout, the Bobcats used a 10-0 run pushing their advantage to 29-19 with 5:50 to go and forcing the Seahawks into a timeout.
- Keiser was unable to make up ground during the final six minutes and went into the half trailing 38-25.
- The Seahawks got to within 44-34 when St. Thomas used a 6-0 spurt extending the deficit to 50-34 with 14:31 left in regulation.
- With the Seahawks trailing 59-46, a tip-in and massive dunk by McClenton started an 8-1 run getting Keiser to within 60-54 with 6:13 to go in the contest. The Bobcats answered with a 5-0 spurt raising the margin back up to 65-54 at the 4:47 mark.
- After two made free throws by
Tyrus Weaver, Whittaker scored the next nine KU points to the tie game at 65-65 with 3:17 left and forcing St. Thomas into a timeout. After the stoppage, Raheem Bowman dunked the ball but
Stefan Zecevic answered with two made free throws, tying the game at 67-67.
- A huge three by Weaver from Whittaker with 2:25 left put KU in front 70-67 when Bowman converted on an old fashion three knotting it at 70-70 with 1:47 to go.
- STU split a pair of free throws at the 1:09 mark making it 71-70 and a Bowman layup with 26 seconds pushed the deficit to 73-70. After Sarenac missed a game tying three from the right corner with 10.7 seconds left, Bowman went to the line and made one shot to lead 74-70. Keiser was unable to get any closer and went on to fall by the final of 74-70.
