Women's Basketball Notches Win No. 13 on "We Back Pat" Night

Turning Point
The turning point in tonight's contest came in the second quarter when the Seahawks went on a 22-6 run over the final seven minutes of the quarter. During a four minute span, Keiser went on a 12-0 run to take the 30-23 advantage. During the final three minutes, the Seahawks outlasted the Wildcats by the score of 10-6 to cap off the 22-6 run and take a 40-29 advantage at halftime.
 
How it Happened
  • The two squads traded the first four baskets of the game, keeping the contest tied at four apiece with 7:17 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Midori Long broke the tie with a 10-foot jumper after the Seahawks corralled back-to-back offensive boards leading to the second chance buckets.
  • Later in the quarter with Keiser ahead 9-7 with 3:15 remaining, the Wildcats went on an 11-0 run to take the nine-point advantage.
  • Hannah Del Negro ended the scoring drought with a much-needed triple with 54 ticks remaining in the first quarter.
  • Dominique Winbush ended the quarter with a jumper for her fourth basket of the game, trimming the Johnson & Wales lead to 18-14.
  • The Wildcats netted the first basket of the second quarter following a three pointer by Diamond Williams.
  • The Seahawks responded by scoring the next two buckets as Kelsi Ash and Del Negro pulled Keiser to within three.
  • With the Seahawks later trailing 23-18 with 7:36 remaining in the first half, Keiser soared ahead thanks to a 12-0 run over the next four minutes, taking the 30-23 advantage.
  • The Seahawks then concluded the half on a 10-6 run over the final 3:45 of the first half, capping off a 22-6 scoring burst, giving Keiser the 40-29 advantage at half time.
  • The Wildcats scored the first six points of the second half, trimming the Seahawks lead to just five.
  • Keiser then stretched its lead back to 46-37 with 6:15 remaining in the third quarter as Miah Shephard scored all six of the Seahawks points during a 6-2 run.
  • After Johnson & Wales trimmed the deficit to six the Seahawks went on yet another run, this time an 8-0, which included four points by freshman forward Nikki Saunders, to give Keiser the 54-40 advantage.
  • The Wildcats would not go quietly, running out to a 9-1 run over the first 3:58 of the final quarter to cut the Seahawks' lead to 57-55.
  • Johnson & Wales remained right on Keiser's tracks after Williams' fast-break layup pulled the Wildcats to within one with 2:51 remaining in the fourth quarter.
  • Patton drained a critical triple in transition with 2:29 left on the clock to put the Seahawks ahead by four, stopping the Wildcats' run.
  • After a Johnson & Wales bucket, Long knocked down another jumper to place Keiser ahead by four once again.
  • The Wildcats pulled back to within two with 25 seconds left in the quarter, before stealing the inbounds pass following a Keiser timeout.
  • Johnson & Wales saw two opportunities missed on its next possession as Ash came down with the defensive rebound for the Seahawks, handing the ball off to Claudia Reque who would go on to ice the game with a pair of free throws.
  • Reque netted two more free throws in the final second to supply the Seahawks with the 67-62 victory to improve to 13-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
