The #7 ranked Keiser University men's tennis team has signed two time NCAA Division II All American transfer Alex Theiler for the Fall of 2016. Alex, a native of Santiago, Chile will compete for the Seahawks after completing the best season in school history at Saint Leo University.
In his time at Saint Leo, he played primarily #1 & #2 singles and #1 doubles. Alex racked up a singles record of 32-11 while finishing the 2016 campaign as the #13 ranked player in the nation. In doubles, Theiler was even brighter as over the past two years he boasted a 41-9 record and finished 2016 as a part of the #1 ranked doubles duo in the nation.
Alex went on to be named to the 2016 ITA All Star team. Theiler and his partner Barroso-Campos went 27-2 this past season, to earn ITA All-American honors, and finished the season on a nine-match winning streak, including winning every match in the NCAA Tournament.
This past season at Saint Leo, he helped them reach a NCAA Division II national ranking of #2 while capturing their first ever Sunshine State Conference Title and setting the school record for wins in a season going 27-2 and making an appearance in the NCAA Division 2 National Championship game falling 5-3 to Hawaii Pacific.
Alex said on joining the Seahawks, "I'm really happy and motivated to start this new season as a Seahawk. I'm very excited to be part of this team and definitely with the team that we have without doubt we will have a good season. I know some players of the team and I think we can make something special happen, especially since these guys had a good season last year. With the experiences I had last year playing for an NCAA title I hope to bring those experiences here to Keiser and help our team achieve our new goals. Ultimately I am very excited and thankful to Coach Finn for giving me the chance to be a Seahawk!"
Head Coach
Daniel Finn said, "Alex is definitely a massive addition for us. Alex has had an incredible college career so far and played for a fantastic team at Saint Leo last year. He will be able to bring in a vast amount of experience to this team. Alex is an extremely talented and experienced player. He will immediately be able to make a huge impact to our lineup and help lead our already talented group in the direction we want to go."
Finn continued, "Theiler is another guy who brings a ton of energy to the matches and is a great team player. I am looking forward to seeing Alex compete this year in a Seahawk uniform and help push this group to new heights."
This past season Keiser finished the year a program best #7 in the nation with a 20-4 record, won both The Sun Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships for the first time ever and made the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
