#4 Baseball Defeats #5 Southeastern 14-7

The #4 seed Keiser University baseball team defeated #5 seed Southeastern 14-7 on Saturday evening in the Sun Conference tournament. The Seahawks advance to tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. and will await the winner of USCB vs. Southeastern who play at 11:00 a.m.
 
  • The Fire jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before an RBI single up the middle in the third by Tyler Goff cut the deficit in half at 2-1. The Seahawks then struck with four runs in the fourth.
  • An RBI squeeze bunt to second by Gabby Mundo knotted the game at 2-2, and Keivan Berges followed with an RBI double to left center taking a 4-2 advantage. Jack Curtis capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI single up the middle upping the margin to 5-2.
  • In the fifth, an RBI single to left center by Mundo pushed the lead to 6-2 and a passed ball made it 7-2.
  • Keiser loaded the bases in the seventh on a leadoff double and a pair of intentional walks, leading to a grand slam to left by Goff extending the advantage to 11-2. However, Southeastern got three runs back in the bottom half getting to within 11-5.
  • A two out RBI double to left in the eighth by Curtis pushed the lead to 12-5, but the Fire plated two runs in the bottom half making it 12-7.
  • Goff led off the ninth with a walk and a double to left center by Casey Mullennix and a throwing error by the shortstop scored both of them to win 14-7.
  • The Seahawks outhit the Fire 16-10 with Mullennix having a game high four hits. Mundo and Berges also had three hits apiece.
  • Steven Bruce (8-0) picked up the win going seven innings with six strikeouts.

Keiser improved to 35-20 overall on the year and remain a perfect 10-0 in neutral site games.
