The #13 Keiser University women's tennis team fell 5-3 to #4 SCAD on Friday morning in the Sun Conference Championship match. The Seahawks moved to 11-8 overall on the year.

The day did not get off to a good start for Keiser as they fell behind 2-0 with Laura Ortega and Livia Toth falling 8-2 and Teodora Stanciu and Lola Garcia falling to the #5 ranked team 8-5. However, the tandem of Ana Pinto and Juliana Goncalves kept the Seahawks within striking distance with an 8-4 win at the second spot to trail 2-1 heading into singles.

Pinto avenged her lone conference loss by beating the #44 player at the second spot 6-1, 6-0 evening the match at 2-2. The Bees responded by going back in front 3-2 when Garcia fell at #6 6-4, 6-1. SCAD then pushed their lead to 4-2 when #22 Ortega fell 6-2, 6-0 to the #2 player in the country.

Stanciu cut the deficit 4-3 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #5, keeping the Seahawks alive. Samantha Guy rallied from a set down 3-6 at #4 to take the second set 6-4 and push her match to a third set. Guy trailed 4-1 in the third when Goncalves lost 6-0, 7-5 at #3, clinching the 5-3 win for SCAD.

Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "Honestly we really didn't have our best stuff today. Congratulations to SCAD as they deserve the conference title. Falling behind in doubles hurt us but I have to brag about these ladies as they battled their tails off and showed so much heart today and in this entire tournament. I am confident we will get a bid into nationals and I know these girls are still capable of making a great run."
